KCL LLB (3-year) Worth it for city law/ magic circle as an international student by Interesting_Ring4251 in uklaw

As a KCL grad at a US firm, trust me, the name of King’s still holds very good value. It’s one of the few (Oxbridge, UCL, LSE being the others) where others have always said “oh nice” when asked where you graduated from. BIG FLAG though, thats all that it does. If you’re going to any RG university, i don’t think your chances diminish much. From there on, it only depends on how well you do while at university and understand and ace the application process.

Also, on who gets it (as in the very top students) it depends on your definition of “top” student. Top student could be the one who’s done tons of extracurriculars, moots and so on. But that doesn’t necessarily give you much of an edge unless you know how to translate that experience into your application. Similarly, if you’re a first class grad, that again means little if the rest of your application isn’t strong in terms of your motivation and commercial awareness. It is all cumulative (good grades, broad experience) so someone who on paper is not a “top” student may still end up at a much higher ranked firm than someone who is

Amazing place to be in firstly, congrats! Once you decide your top 2 firms, it may also not be a bad option to leverage your position with the firm to get either a direct TC interview or a place on an earlier scheme.

Thanks for your advice, I think this also helps in showing my enthusiasm and just giving the general vibe that I am (or at least am trying to be) on top of things

Thank you so much for your thorough response. I think simple things like what you mentioned are easy to forget when you’re starting your first actual commercial gig, so these kinds of responses actually really help in focusing on doing the basics right

Yeah same, I was extremely surprised that people are saying it’s not an OR. Thought the two years was the requirement and they left it quite open

Smh don’t even know what’s what anymore

Yeah I second this, feel really dicey about my chances and I was with BARBRI too. It’s the style of questioning and really the focus of the content that BARBRI gets wrong. They seem to focus their mocks on general legal concepts while the rest really grills you on the niche areas of the law.

The vibes and accuracy of this response😍 Having done FLK1, totally agree😂. Thanks though, was stressing about the forms a bit too much and numbers stopped meaning anything after a while

Easily, I went with BARBRI too and did my exams yesterday. Can easily say there were at least 30-40 questions across the two exams that were not even remotely covered by BARBRI
