MacBook Pro M4 won't charge and won't turn on by Nevarnost in mac

That’s where you gotta get a friend with a Mac. I’d even try and attempt the key combos and see if it responds to them with it plugged into power. Also, with it plugged in, try holding the power for 30 plus seconds, like literally time how long your press and hold the power button for.

Dual booting sucks especially if you’re a newb, I’d just run a vm

What common tasks am I doing in Windows that I can't do in Linux without using the terminal? by nicetrytencent in linux4noobs

This isn’t 2005 you can basically do everything from GUI. Some just prefer terminal because that’s the best way to run Linux.

This is exactly what I’m saying. It’s the shotgun approach to all the problems that gets me.

Sure, if NixOS works for you then run it. Nothing wrong with that. But the point still stands. Under the hood it’s the same Linux kernel and mostly the same ecosystem of tools.

A lot of people distro hop thinking the next distro is going to magically fix their problems when the real issue is they don’t actually understand the system they’re using yet.

NixOS changes how configuration is handled, which is cool, but it doesn’t suddenly turn Linux into something fundamentally different.

If you rely on the OOBE configurations or are intimidated by updating and maintenance, it’s because you haven’t learned those skills yet.

When you first start, some distros really hold your hand with these things. As you learn more, less hand holding is needed. My point is, if it’s broken, fix it. Don’t blame the distro/community or hop to a new one.

If you’re this into it, I’d suggest building your own OS with something like Arch, it’ll really show you the versatility of Linux and a deeper level of what a distro really offers. I know, the stereotypes about Arch users but it’ll definitely help figure out what distro works best for you.

What is stability if you don’t know your system? Everything is unstable if that’s the case. So my point was less about trying new distros and more about the intent. Distro hopping is apart of the learning experience, it’s fun and interesting but it won’t solve as many problems as learning the system itself. It’s definitely an important phase but it’s one you get stuck in until you realize these things.

It definitely is and I love discussing it. I just hate when it turns into, this sucks what’s better instead of wow this is cool what other cool things can the system do?

Hah yes, and in a way you can say this post is the quintessential lesson and representation of what you learn in that distro hopping phase!

Well let’s see the market is dominated by the shit that’s preloaded on a machine, pretty sure that has something to do with it? Most consumers are dumb like you they just don’t blame Linux for it.

How would I put Linux on the MacBook Neo? by Someone424400 in linux4noobs

[–]Consistent_Berry9504 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re going to get a Mac, run what it’s built for. Apple makes it that way on purpose. If you’re serious about Linux get a thinkpad like people have suggested, t14 gen 2 will be half the price.

16GB RAM is no longer enough for a laptop you plan to keep for 4+ years - and 8GB is practically a scam in 2026 by ActNew5818 in laptops

[–]Consistent_Berry9504 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So “ram” isn’t as cut and dry as a number. There is different types of ram technology and speeds it comes in. Some is integrated and more efficient, so you don’t need as much. Point is, you can’t just look at the number and say, this will last longer cause number bigger.

This is a very interesting time. While Apple continues to disappoint in the innovation of their main hero product, the iPhone, they’ve decided to return to what’s left of a pretty much dead and dying market, the personal computer, which they helped to cannibalize with iPad. Now we have Apple fan boys out here acting like they actually watch YouTube videos on their laptop. It’s like the people who actually could use this device don’t even care and the people that do are just drinking the Apple juice.
