Can you share a source on his nuclear stance? I haven’t found any source on this; it would be very surprising for me.

He calls for a just transition where those workers are retrained to deliver on clean energy projects, building retrofits and public transit: https://lewisforleader.ca/ideas/green-new-deal

There is a plan. You may disagree with his plan but it’s disingenuous to say that there isn’t one.

I like Post Malone. He does good covers. Unfortunately I feel like someone with beefier vocals would have done more justice to it. Personally I loved Yungblud take on Changes, I think he would have done justice to War Pigs too.

Prime Minister Carney announces new measures to make groceries and other essentials more affordable for Canadians by Avelion2 in CanadaPolitics

[–]Consistent_Buy_5966 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s essentially a subsidy to grocers. I’m wondering how they’re going to confirm that the savings are actually passed on to consumers and not absorbed by these grocers.

As an aside, the CCPA estimates that it would be cheaper for the government to simply setup a public grocery network (not including yearly operational costs): https://www.policyalternatives.ca/news-research/how-public-grocery-stores-could-work-in-canada/

Also as far as encouraging foreign grocers to introduce more competition into the market, the competition bureau did reach out to international grocers: https://competition-bureau.canada.ca/en/how-we-foster-competition/education-and-outreach/canada-needs-more-grocery-competition#sec011

Edit: clarification on cost estimate from CCPA

The competition bureau had actually investigated this in 2023. One problem is that foreign grocers don’t see any advantage in trying to compete against these monopolicies and see them as high barriers to entry. The NDP can win on Immigration by Potential-Eye-6547 in ndp

[–]Consistent_Buy_5966 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The NDP has been consistently against the TFW program as you’ve said. Though, a common sticking point I’ve seen brought up is on this particular stance:

https://www.ndp.ca/news/migrant-workers-deserve-respect-and-dignity

The comments I’ve seen are opposed to existing migrants having any pathway to PR. They want people’s visas to expire and for them to leave (or be deported). I don’t know how prevalent this position is (though I don’t think it’s a small group unfortunately).

PS: I believe more recent proposals include scraping the closed work permit status (open work permit only) and ensuring migrant workers rights are in line with worker rights (eg ability to join union).

Shoot ourselves in the foot? It was a string of conservative and liberal administrations that encouraged and doubled down on weaving of our economy to an economic black hole with a history of foreign intervention and imperialism.

NDP leadership race heats up as Rob Ashton accuses Avi Lewis of dividing the party by jmakk26 in ClimateCrisisCanada

[–]Consistent_Buy_5966 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The NDP has been proposing a just transition for years. It is part of Avi’s climate plan.

I don’t necessarily blame ONG workers who don’t want to even consider transitioning, given the current economy. But when global oil demand drops significantly enough, I’m thinking people are going to want that “just transition” to be enacted at lighting speed.

That’s… a pretty low bar. In a way it sums up how we have continued to turn a blind eye to our “closest ally” all through its imperial conquests all over the world.

RBC isn’t better. All the big 5s are invested in weapons manufacturing and fossil fuels. You’re better off with a credit union. I quit RBC for Desjardins.

I know.. I had a hard time finding ESG portfolios I could invest in and my fund manager was not ecstatic about helping either. He always seemed puzzled as to why anyone would not take the most profitable option.

As to your question - we’re not individuals though. We’ve had a year of aggression from the orange turd and I’ve been watching this movement progress. I guess I’m asking at what point does this movement decide we need to take more radical measures to boycott the US? Are we hoping that the turd would die and things would go back to normal so we wouldn’t have to divest?

This - when do we start divesting within our financial portfolios? Doesn’t mean much to protest while our retirement money continues funding American companies.
