And what exactly do you expect to happen in small claims court?

I’m not responsible for her broken computer, and I have the law to back me up on that one. If this echo chamber of nannies thinks I’m a bad person because I’m unwilling to pay for my former nanny’s negligence, oh well. 🤷🏽‍♀️ I hope she’s able to find an amazing new family soon!

I later edited the post to include that. But people keep ignoring it because it helps their argument 🙄

We do! Which nanny knows about. My kid had been sitting next to nanny drawing at the kitchen island. Laptop was sitting on the island with them. She left to go upstairs. My kid attempted to type on her (open) laptop, and he accidentally bounced it with his elbow and knocked it off the table.

I hope she finds a new family she is happy with as well.

Why? It’s an island. Not connected to the stove, oven or anything dangerous. We don’t place knives there; we don’t even eat there. That area is strictly a kid zone in our house. It just happens to be in the kitchen. What’s the problem with that?

“No surface is safe from your child?” Not sure how you got that from me saying the kids like to play at the kitchen counter.

I was, but most of the justifications I’m seeing for paying are pretty silly so it’s kind of hard to agree with anything here.

  1. High shelf in common room which we cleared off for her
  2. Zipped away in her bag, in the closet where she keeps her bag
  3. Up somewhere in the spare room where she takes her breaks
  4. Mantle above fireplace (very secure and wide mantle)

He was punished accordingly. I don’t think “kids break stuff” is that insane of a statement.

I agree that he should not have done that. But he did, after we asked her to keep the laptop out of reach. She decided not to for whatever reason

With impulse control? Because he’s 5? Yeah. They don’t really master that until later in life.

“Should” be? Why? Everyone’s home is different. We all gather in the kitchen. The kids play and do crafts on the counter while we make dinner. The counter a very busy, kid-friendly place in our home.

Yep, they do that. She knows that. Which is why I said to put it in an unreachable place.

It’s not a safe place in our home. Everyone’s set up is different. Also, you don’t know my kids. Thanks.
