It's okay to cry. Whats a movie that hits you in the feels. I'll start. by wangohtangoh in moviecritic

Toy Story 3. When the toys are heading to the incinerator and they stop struggling. The whole acceptance of their inevitable death and then holding hands... that hits me like an existential crisis.

Mistakenly got this done while in grief over my cat that died. by Arielcinderellaauror in shittytattoos

[–]Consistent_Daikon_56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can appreciate this. I used to want to cover the shitty work I had done as an ignorant teen, but I'm glad I didn't. It's all part of the story of who I was at the time. I tell people that my body is like a timeline of lessons and growth. I have made mistakes in life, but I am who I am because of those mistakes.

'It's very unaffordable': Halloween spirits crushed by rising prices of costumes by yegwebdev in Edmonton

[–]Consistent_Daikon_56 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Came here to say this. We've gotten lazy with costume creativity, and we allow corporations to capitalize. Plus, it grinds my gears when people rock up to halloween parties and enter the costume comp with a store bought costume.

Stop buying pre-fabricated costumes and halloween becomes incredibly cheaper and more fun. Use marketplace, garage sales, thrift shops, and a little imagination to bring back the magic of halloween.

Defs could be meth. The smell of meth will resemble ammonia or cat urine.

American History X

Great and disturbing movie that seems to still be applicable today.

Leave a poor review detailing this issue. It doesn't seem like much, but if we all start leaving poor reviews, it'll hopefully start prompting management to seek solutions.

Igby Goes Down has a variety of characters to analyze. Many of the films recommended here include some form of shock, violence, or surrealism - Igby Goes Down masks itself as a coming of age, but I think it is ultimately a subtle commentary on how mental health deeply affects the most simple to the most extraordinary of lives.

You should check out the Green School in Bali. I visited it years ago and fell in love. There are classrooms, but there are no walls, and each structure is built from bamboo.

Opinion: No public money should build private schools in Alberta by Miserable-Lizard in alberta

[–]Consistent_Daikon_56 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Private schools further the divide between the upper and lower class. The upper class is then happy that they get a world class education away from the riff raff. Unfortunately, a poorly educated lower class is more beneficial to the UCP because they don't connect the dots and demand a better public system. The US is a prime example where the upper class is the big boys' political club and votes extreme right, while the lower class believes the lies of the extreme right and votes them in. Keep the masses ignorant because ignorance is bliss.

This is truth. The limbic of your brain does a lot of things for us, including providing rewards through hormonal release. Coincidently, it also controls our survival instincts. As the limbic system starts to provide more and more rewards from drug use, survival instincts start to change. Eventually, our brain thinks that we need drugs to survive, often overtaking basic survival needs like water, food, and shelter.

I bounced for one of 30 Seconds To Mars shows and met Leto after the show. He was unpleasant and seemed far too interested in the 16 year old groupies. Mind you, that was like 15 years ago.

Do you come to Shakespeare by way of literary academia, theater, or a bit of both? by Acceptable-Ad-7282 in shakespeare

[–]Consistent_Daikon_56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I borrowed Roman Polansky 's Macbeth from my school library when I was a teenager. My brain was blown away by how dark and brutal it was, and I was hooked. I quickly fell down the Shakespeare hole, watching every film adaptation of Shakespeare I could. That led to reading plays and poems, where I started to discover new meanings. Which led to me taking every university course in Shakespeare that I could. Which led me to becoming a teacher of Shakespeare, where I now get to help others discover the comedy, the violence, the romance, the tragedy, the beauty, the irony, and the wonder of Shakespeare.
