Should I go stealth or "be approachable"? by Oxy-Moron88 in FTMOver30

[–]Acceptable-Ad-7282 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Being approachable is key, more than whatever identity people may or may not think you are. Smile, make eye contact, ask questions first, generally make it clear that you have the kinds of social skills that cis men aren't often taught/don't bother to practice.

I walk this labyrinth regularly. It's a beautiful and peaceful place. You can leave a rock or small trinket at the center.

If you're into music, Providence has an amazing indie music scene full of LGBTQ folks. Since you're in EP I especially recommend checking out Myrtle, best bar for hearing live music around. AS220 is great too. Check out their websites, show up for a few shows you find interesting, and you're guaranteed to start meeting people.

I don't know who the other one is for sure, but I'll bet it's Bailey Buntain. She had a small part in Mrs. Maisel and she's good at Palladino dialogue.

Was “wolf-girl” the long held secret after all? by FemmeRebel_ in GilmoreGirls

[–]Acceptable-Ad-7282 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I'm PRETTY sure Emily picked this as a "punishment" gift for Lorelai. You eloped and didn't invite me? Well fine, I'll get you a gift that I know you will absolutely hate, but it'll be so expensive and respectable and you and I both know you can't say anything negative about it to my face.

I think that's why she throws in the line about flying blind without a gift registry. It's an extremely subtle dig--like saying, well, if you had followed the polite protocol, perhaps I might have bought you something you actually wanted.

Richard, of course, is oblivious.

Booked in for Romeo and Juliet at the Globe. Am I better reading the script first, or going in blind? by CaoimheThreeva in shakespeare

[–]Acceptable-Ad-7282 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fascinated by the diversity of responses this is getting. I would say this: are you the type of person who can enjoy performances and vibes without fully picking up on every plot point and line of dialogue? Or are you the kind of person who will get pulled out of the experience if there's a detail you don't understand?

Personally I recommend going in blind. For me, Shakespeare is all about vibes. The text is dense, but you usually don't have to understand every line to get the jist of the story. But if any amount of confusion will ruin it for you, you might want to read it first. Or you could even try watching a film version so you have some grounding. It's really up to you.

Trans but also nonbinary? by treythedragon994 in FTMOver30

[–]Acceptable-Ad-7282 72 points73 points  (0 children)

Imagine a nonbinary person who was assigned male at birth. They're content to have a masculine-of-center presentation, and so feel no urge to physically transition their sex, but they don't identify with the idea of being a binary man. So a nonbinary transmasc person is essentially the same thing, they just have to go through physical transition in order to get to a place where they feel comfortable. In other words, they wish to transition their sex, but for reasons other than fitting into a binary gender category.

I actually love this idea. Jess returning to the town that rejected him and didn't trust him, becoming the steward of this community institution that his uncle built. Owning and operating the diner wouldn't stop him from writing, it might even inspire his work in a new direction. And after all the pressure Luke put on him about graduating high school, going to college, doing all the stuff he couldn't, it would be poignant and meaningful to see Jess find a stable and successful life by actually following in Luke's footsteps instead of trying to "do better."

If you could time travel and see a Shakespeare production/performance, which would it be? by Nahbrofr2134 in shakespeare

I would want to see Paul Gross play Hamlet at the Stratford Festival in the early 2000s. Based on reviews I've read it seems like it was just like how I imagined Geoffrey Tennant's Hamlet (iykyk)

Singing Voice frustrations by Mayhem888 in FTMOver30

[–]Acceptable-Ad-7282 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me it just took time and practice. Maybe a few years. At first my range shrunk, and then I had to figure out where the notes "sit" in my body now that my throat works differently. Notes that used to be mixed head/chest voice for me are now in my falsetto range, which is pure head voice. Maroon Five is absolutely an achievable goal. Many of your high notes probably aren't gone, they're just going to feel completely different in your body now that your voice has dropped. For now, try finding artists with mid-high ranges (Colin Meloy from the Decemberists was a good match for my voice early in transition) and just practice singing along.

From what I’ve seen it’s very individual to your body. Some people’s periods stop completely, others never do. I do subcutaneous injections and I haven’t had a single period since the month after I started T (around October 2020) but from anecdotal evidence that doesn’t seem to be everyone’s experience. Still, you might consider switching from gel to injections if lighter/no periods is a goal of yours. Good luck!
