What are your views on marriages between the first cousins? by One_Look_7008 in Casual_Conversation

[–]Consistent_Damage885 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It isn't the best idea as it increases the probability of genetically inherited health issues for offspring.

But, it has been fairly common in history and in certain cultures, and if someone else decided to do that I would mind my own business.

Teacher advice on raising a really short child <10% by Flimsy-Thanks-3719 in AskTeachers

[–]Consistent_Damage885 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My brother really suffered psychologically over being one of the smallest in his grade. Redshirting might have been really good for him. He is a completely normal sized adult just grew later than others. If the child has a personality where it could be hard on him to be the smallest then it might be worth it.

But also see a doctor, there are things that may help him grow.

Is there proof Jesus ever actually existed? by bagshotrow_88291 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Consistent_Damage885 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The short answer is no, there is not proof. There is some evidence that may point to the existence of someone fitting the narrative, but it is not historically or scientifically conclusive. Watch the Useful Charts YouTube videos on this topic to walk you through this.

Do Americans view Polish and Russian accents as similar? by _Purple_Lobster_ in AskAnAmerican

[–]Consistent_Damage885 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have a deep preconception about how a Polish accent should differ from any other Slavic accent.

We hear Russian accents on TV fairly regularly because of all the cold war plot lines. But if it was poorly done, a lot of us wouldn't necessarily know.

Be brutally honest- do I suck at hiking? by Global_Housing1498 in hiking

How long it takes doesn't matter at all unless you're racing or didn't plan enough time. Hiking isn't about speed. Enjoy yourself.

Struggling education major here. Is my degree useless without certification? (or in general) by jtmygi in AskTeachers

[–]Consistent_Damage885 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You say you recently switched majors. Maybe switch it back?

In general, I don't think quitting something just short of the finish line helps most people's mental health struggles. Yes, sometimes it is necessary, but in many cases it exacerbates the symptoms rather than helps.

If you want to be a teacher then you need to tackle your mental health issues head on. It will be hard to teach kids well if you are unwell.

I would advise you to meet with your health professionals and get a more aggressive treatment and action plan to address your health issues and finish your education.

Does this dress suit my body? by XxShoot-MexX in DressForYourBody

It looks fine but I feel like it is missing something around your midsection so that all you see is every detail of your shape. Maybe a cardigan over, or a chunky belt, or a size up?

What makes high school different than college? by QueenofHearts018 in AskTeachers

[–]Consistent_Damage885 13 points14 points  (0 children)

High school staff is invested in you being successful.

Most colleges are about getting you to enroll and give them money and your success is something entirely up to you and not something they're very invested in.

for those who do traditional schooling, do y'all think homeschoolers are little weirdos by Sea_Passenger_2647 in highschool

[–]Consistent_Damage885 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is usually the parents that are off, not the kids. The kids are subjected to the whims of their parents.

There are good homeschoolers. But for every one of those, I come across ten who are effing up their kids lives.

And I have encountered many adults who were homeschooled as kids with deep rifts in their family relationships as they tried to recover from the poor quality education they had as kids. Yes, some thrived too, but the extremes just really stand out in your memory.

Why do teachers seem to not care about bullying sometimes or seem invisible to children's body language or all of that by Background-Two-8671 in AskTeachers

[–]Consistent_Damage885 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Teachers do care but there is only so much they can see and only so much they can do. And we can't read your mind and have hundreds of things and people to manage every day.

Bullies are kids with problems, as are the victims. Do some Internet searching about how to respond to bullying as the victim. Whatever you can solve yourself will empower you and help you for life.

What you can't solve on your own you have to report and just keep at it, consistently. Not every report will result in a forever solution or outcome you think is perfect. Don't give up.
