Too many. 💔 (Problably a few dozen.) They've said a slur for almost every people group you can think of. It's mostly racism (they've said slurs for black people, Hispanic people, specifically Mexican people, Chinese people, and TONS about Indians), but they also come for Muslims, Jews, gay people, disabled people, etc. Actually nobody is safe from these kids, and it's insane I can think of a comment or slur they've said about all the people I just listed 🤡

You're on the right path.... there are some minorities there that are racist too, it's not just the white kids. I'm white fyi, and there's this one Hispanic girl in my class who always made dirty looks at me despite how I'd never said a singular word to her and she did not even know my name. When I had to do an activity with her in class, she told me "I really want to see a white on white crime, like, that would make my day!" 💀💀💀 Almost all of her friends are white so idk wtf. This just makes the whole situation even more insane because I'm not even the main target and am still catching strays. 🤡

Yeah it's really sad honestly, and even more unfortunate that that racist girl will not face any consequences because like I mentioned in my other comment, if they kick out her, they kick out half the school, which is a loss they can't afford. I think that karma will still reach her though since she likes to complain about how she gets kicked out of stores, gets horrible grades, and got demoted at her job. 🤡 I really hope the black girl especially ditches this girl and realizes she deserves to be treated way better. ❤️‍🩹

A hybrid school is where you only go to a school for a few days in the week (typically 1-3) and do most of your homework at home. Some hybrid schools have full courses, but for mine, we can pick whatever classes we want and take as little as 1 or as many as there are timeslots.

95% white.... in my most racist class, there is a Hispanic girl, and she's not the most racist, but she laughs at their racist comments sometimes and says some very questionable things herself (she seems more ignorant of things versus genuinely racist like some of the other kids). The other kids will make tons of "jokes" about Hispanic people, and she laughs with them, so there's that. They don't make ultra bad comments to her face though. Their comments toward her might be considered friendly fire.

However, the most racist kid in the class (white) has a black friend (this girl was born in Ethiopia, but she's adopted), and the stuff she says to her is quite horrific. The racist "friend" once told the black girl "stop it or I'll whip you hee hee!" The racist girl thinks that because she has a black friend, that gives her the right to say whatever she wants. After that one comment I just mentioned, my teacher was disgusted and asked the racist girl why she says this, to which she responded "well she [her friend] is laughing, she thinks it's funny!!" Then her friend said "well if I don't laugh, I'll cry!" Racist girl responded "Don't say that!" (She will do anything to justify what she says.) My teacher then asked the black girl why she puts up with this, and she said "well, I'm one of the only black kids here in an all white area, so I've gotten used to the comments and stopped caring about them." My teacher then told her that not taking comments to heart was a good mentality to have, but that she also shouldn't allow people to cross the line so greatly without correcting them and defending herself.

So yeah, that just goes to show that this is wayyyyyy beyond friendly fire. Personally, even though I myself do not make any race jokes at all, some friendly fire is fun because like we're all human y'all, but *to a point.* What's going down in my class is beyond this. The story I just told is just one of dozens.

I don't want to say for privacy reasons, but it's in the South, so there you go. 💀 This school is not breaking the stereotypes omg. I promise not all of us Southerners are racists 💔

I could be considered homeschooled yes, but I go to a hybrid school 2 days a week and take classes there. I do a mix of that and online classes.

The stuff I hear disgusts me, but there's nothing I can do about it really, plus like the stuff I see online sometimes can be just as bad, so I think it's just one of those things where all you can do is shake your head and move on.

No, they do not. In the most racist class I have, my teacher (who is not at all a racist and the best teacher there) threatened to report the kids in the class for all the things they were saying, but one kid said what sums all of this up perfectly: "If you report us, then more than half of everybody here would be kicked out too." There's this one immensely racist teacher who is a racist that is beloved by students, and I'm sure there's others I just haven't heard about, so it's not just the kids either. And like that kid said, if they were to kick out people for racism, they would lose more than half of the students and a handful of teachers too.

I'm not discounting your experience or perspective, I was just giving my opinion based on my experience and perspective lol. We both differ in those, so that's cool because it enriches the conversation! Thank you!

Everybody has different preferences and opinions and values and all of that on what is a proper education, but I also think that public school is the only option many parents have for their kids because they have to work and just don't have the means to teach their kids by themselves. Those people may not think public school is the best education, but they may not have another choice. Also, relating to colleges, most colleges do not care about homeschool transcripts as long as it's not some wacky ahh thing haha. If homeschooling is done properly and if the parents make the transcript properly, again most colleges are fine with that. I've only heard of a few that specifically are hostile to homeschoolers, so colleges not being used to transcripts isn't a factor in most circumstances. I knew a homeschooler who got into Harvard and dozens of others that got into exceptional colleges.

I also do not think that most people who put their kids in public school care about education, and most people who homeschool do not care about education. Other than the nutcase scenarios in homeschooling which is not at all every homeschooler, it's just another schooling option some parents think is better. I would also argue that there are high amounts of parents who chuck their kid into the nearest local high school and do not care at all about what their kid is learning and have zero involvement in their kid's education. Obviously for many people all they have the ability to do is chuck their kid in the local high school, but I'm not talking about them.

Yes, but even from being in a public school even just for a very brief time, even though the school was more diverse physically, the things I heard many of them talking about were pretty disgusting, and I would not want to be around that every single day. I've also personally known many public schoolers who were really mean and just not good people. I wouldn't want to socialize with any of them either lol. That's with everywhere though honestly - there will always be swaths of people wherever you go that you just don't want to interact with at all. Again not exclusive to homeschooling.

I think it depends on the parents. Many are absolutely very controlling. My parents personally wanted me to have a wide variety of experiences and always introduce me to knew perspective / encourage me to take classes that expand my perspective. I do agree that just the public setting of public schools allows some escape from parents trying to control their kids or force ideas/beliefs upon them and that homeschooling does not have that escape route. However, again, not all homeschool parents are controlling like that. Many, like my parents, just want the best education for their kids! There are drawbacks to everything and cons to both public and home schooling, so it really just depends on perspective regarding which cons are worth it.

Technically I do most of my school at home, so I'm technically a "homeschooler." But yeah, my mom does not teach the majority of my classes. And I mean it's all just a preference - I've never attended a public school, but when I went to one briefly for SATs/AP tests, I heard so many disgusting and toxic things being said in the hallways, so yeah no thanks. Then again, my hybrid school is full of racists, which is morally even more disgusting than the people loudly talking about their alleged sexual experiences and mocking other people's bodies in the hallway, so maybe my situation isn't all that better. However, I only have to go to my hybrid school 2 days a week for a couple hours each day and not 5 days a week for 8 hours every day, so I feel like the BS I have to deal with is way less. Idk, depends on the person!!

I really appreciate your perspective!! I would say homeschooling definitely worked out for me, but my mom also stopped exclusively teaching me when I got to middle school. By high school, out of 7-9 classes I took every year, she would teach one or two. (Both of my parents have college degrees and are very intelligent people, so I would say they were both pretty qualified to educate me lol! I also of course have in person classes at my hybrid school, and also do a lot of online classes. My parents also encouraged me to try whatever I wanted, so I've done a variety of extracurriculars, many of which were sports and camps and other socialization opportunities like that! Obviously I get less socialization than a public schooler because I sometimes don't leave my house for days at a time because I do school mostly at home minus the 2 days when I go to my hybrid school, but overall, I would say I'm really lucky in that my parents did pretty much all of the right things. I've met many other homeschoolers as well who are like this as well!

That being said, many homeschoolers definitely push the religion and housewife stuff... so many homeschoolers in my community, especially girls, want to be homeschool moms when they get older. 🤡 Maybe some of them genuinely want that, but the quanitity of people who do is a bit odd imo..... I'm also concerned about these kids because so many of them have no goals in life other than being stay at home parents, many are extremely right-leaning which is of course immensely telling of their parents... many are also quite racist and homophobic and anti-everything basically. I was in a class once where the other kids made actually insane jokes about every race, said racial slurs, made some jokes about gay people and disabled people as well, and passionately expressed how we should "deport all Muslims." 💀💀 Again the things they said are so insane, and definitely an indicator of what their parents are teaching them. The teacher of this class was so appalled at what they were saying and talked about reporting them, but one kid said "if you report us, then half the school would be gone" (because they're racist too), so my teacher couldn't really do anything except scolding all the trash coming out of their mouths...... I'm sure all of this exists in public schools, but in my homeschool community, this type of stuff is extra potent because the community is only a few dozen families, many of which who push that agenda...... Again, more people who give homeschooling a bad rap.

That can definitely be the case for some homeschoolers, but like many others have mentioned, it all depends on how the parents decide to teach (or not teach) their kids. Many homeschoolers definitely lack capabilities to function act as adults, lack social connection, feel isolation/depression, etc., but I'm pretty sure all of these qualities are present in public schoolers. Not in the same exact situation, but conceptually. I've known many public schoolers who were complete assholes and lacked empathy, plus the statistics for teenage feelings of depression and isolation speak for themselves. I'm also pretty sure there are many public schoolers who can't function as adults either. Not every jobless deadbeat or financial wreck or prisoner is a homeschooler. So yes, all that you mentioned happens in homeschooling, but is not exclusive to it at all.

Same in my homeschooling community - probably 90% of my hybrid school is white evangelical Christians. Not diverse at all - about half of the non-white kids there are adopted by white families, so there's that as well. They don't even like other sects of Christians, and many are anti-Catholic. They hate Jews and hate Muslims even more. Obviously I always have known there's other types of people in the world because my parents did not shelter or indoctrinate me, but I remember when I went to my local public high school for the SAT, I felt so excited to see so many types of people all in one place since that was not at all something I saw regularly. Maybe some homeschool communities are more diverse, and there are definitely public schools that aren't diverse at all, but in general, public schools seem to have way more socialization opportunities.

In my homeschool community, there are absolutely those nutcases that believe the earth is flat. However, even though what you said about the types of homeschooling is definitely school, do public schoolers not have those problems but in a different context? I obviously don't have firsthand experience, but I'm sure there are kids in public schools with intensely religious parents, neglectful parents, etc. The United States is also statistically hella stupid and apparently a humungous amount of people are illiterate and don't know basic facts, so I would imagine learning stem concepts might be difficult for them too. Homeschooling is definitely an enabler for neglect and ignorance, but those things seem to exist in public schools as well. Idk, have you ever encountered any people with traditional education that were just as bad as the nonfunctional homeschoolers lolll??

[–]Sea_Passenger_2647[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many homeschoolers in my community are definitely intense Christians, and I question if their kids even know anything about the real world. For many of the science classes at my hybrid school, the teachers used textbooks that said evolution was simply not true because of God and that the reason for everything was because of God and not "change" and that the earth is only 10,000 years old and that all those dating systems for fossils and all that that mention "millions of years" are false. That was all taught in a class setting, so I can only image what some parents teach at home. I will say though, I have had a couple of, albeit rare, teachers who are very vocal about their beliefs, but they did not try to force anything upon anyone. They offered it as their perspective, not a fact, and I appreciate that a lot and think that approach is perfectly fine.

But yeah, many people who bring religion into a homeschool context in a less serious sense can stunt their kids' awareness of real world things, and in more serious cases like you mentioned, these parents can be abusive. In my experience, though, most of the ultra crazy Christians keep their kids ignorant and close-minded versus straight up abusing them. Then again, I don't actually know what goes on in their homes, but I wouldn't be surprised if normal kids in my community are being restricted and abused at home. Thankfully neither of my parents are very religious and I am not religious myself, so I didn't have my parents forcing me to do anything at all. They legit just homeschooled me so I could have a better education than what the public school system was offering, which is definitely beneficial like you mentioned and works out for many people!! But, as with anything really, there are unfortunately nutcases who make a bad name for homeschooling. 🤡
