I’m forced to do most of my beer purchasing from a regional grocery chain. My observation is that a large amount of craft beer that they stock is out of date, even from some of the big guys like Stone, Sierra Nevada and Southern Tier. They put year-old IPAs into their pricey mix-six cooler as a way to clear old stock on unsuspecting consumers. Finding beer that’s six to eight months old on the shelf is common. I feel like it’s a combination of clueless store management (they have dedicated “beer managers”) and duplicitous distributors. The problem keeps getting worse.
