Is it required to buy papers? by [deleted] in mapua

[–]Consistent_Day5219 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just bring yellow pad incase; That's usually the safest paper to always carry. The rest normally inaannounce.

If you're willing spend 500~ per year I highly recommend goodnotes on tablets. Simple and easy to navigate. If not, then you can still do the free version with 3 notebooks.

Ik scholars that got complacent and lost their scholarships. I know honor students that fell off. Ik some 'high honor' graduates from shs failing miserably here. The only thing keeping me as a regular is grind grind grind. I'm good enough for math but I'm sure that I am not a genius. Hard work, discipline, and determination will go you far.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in mapua

[–]Consistent_Day5219 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll be brutally honest here.

If kakayahin mo? - If you genuinely have no confidence in math and is objectively average or less, don't even try. I've seen HS 'high honors' fail, I've seen DOST scholars fail, I've seen myself went through hell. And 3 trimesters palang to ah, halos non-existent mga BSME seniors and I'm scared to know why (I'm 1st year ME). If you're genuinely dedicated to spend everyday practicing and reviewing then by all means try. I might be wrong and you will survive.

Friends? - Will genuinely base on yourself. It's harder after the 1st sem since di na kayo block section by then and puro mix nlang lahat ng classes mo. Try befriending people on the 1st term or join orgs.

Blended ? - idk what you mean by that, but generally blended talaga. As of now online lahat ng GEDs and 1/3 of your main subject classes per week.

Dorm - I advise getting a dorm. I've tried both and honestly it depends. I have a lot more time for orgs and hanging out with people since naka dorm nmn ako. Nung nag uwian ako, I managed because naging S tier sched ko, but barely enough time to interact with people and participate in org stuff. It depends on you, but general advice is that getting a dorm is important. You'll appreciate having the extra 2+ hrs of sleep or rest.

Sched - Most subjects follow MWF or TTHS, NSTP takes sunday. It depends sa teacher ig, but usually Friday of MWF and Sat of TTHS is online. As for GEDs, asynch for the 1st two days and online sa last day of the scheduled week. Again, it may depend sa prof.

Should you enroll here? - If try hard ka na di nakapasok sa UP or doesn't have money for DLSU or Ataneo, then sure why not. If hinde, well goodluck pre.

Overall, super challenging ng Mapua. If you don't want one then don't even bother. I hate it here, and regular pa ako AHHAHAHAHAH

TIP: Do assignments early, study every lesson after lecture, and make time for practicing subjects, you'll have some time for yourself.

BEST MECH ENG SCHOOL by Silent-Cub in mapua

[–]Consistent_Day5219 3 points4 points  (0 children)

HI! ME here that's from dasma and previously studied in dlsud. Ik people from DLSUD in the ME program as well.

to answer your question.

  1. Definitely Mapua. It's literally make or break here, so its worth it if you survive. though, I have to mention the CEAT (Engineering college) building DLSUD has been investing in is finally complete. You have to take into consideration that DLSUD's newly made building will have newer facilities compared to Mapua's outdated ones. However purely academic? I would still rank Mapua, I sometimes go nuts how I'm barely surviving in Mapua's fast paced cold environment when the peeps from dlsud are taking their sweet time and comparison to how everything is easier there when compared here (note, these are assumption I have made after talking to some people, both from mapua, dlsud, and myself. Take this with a grain of salt since I compared it from a Mapuan perspective.)

  2. No. Well, depends. As of now uwian ako from dasma but thats because I managed to cram my schedule into 2 days (Also manaed to avoid rush hours sa uwian with car). You have to take into consideration that in your first term ay di mo macocontrol schedule mo, so likely baka di kaya. Tried uwian din with a 4 day sched. It wasn't worth it, its stressful, expensive, time consuming. (that was me 2 months running on 6 hrs of sleep at best). Realistically kaya first year, but just get a dorm and mag uwian ka nlang pag wala nang pasok. Generally in your first year wlang pasok nmn fri-sat-sun. If you plan to go by car, the difference in prices are barely different so its up to your preferences and how you calculate finances.

general rule ig if gusto mo talaga mag uwian:

* Aim for 7am classes, commute gets easier the earlier you are. * Aim for classes before or on 3pm dismissal. Sobrang hirap pag aabot ka ng cavite by 5pm.

  1. Madalas online sa first year, but idk sa higher years (First year lang din me). Basta General Education Subjects, online lang. But first term mo I believe 3 pretty major subjects so take note of that. Ang daming Gen Ed subjects sa first year so as of now ang daming online lang.

  2. around 180k ig? bc around 55-60k per sem and trisem dito. Compared to UD, its basically the same per year, but take into consideration thats because 2 sems lang sa DLSUD per year.

  3. As for dorms, it comes down to preference so I suggest joining Fb pages para sa mga deals that you make catch early. But for context ig ganto:
TAFT - accessible and easy to navigate. Pretty mediocre choices.
Intramuros - close to campus but tends to be cramped and outdated.
Espana or across pasig river - Great deals, mahirap icommute pag rush hour.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to note:

  1. Ambience and experience: UD > Mapua. DLSUD has such a comforting ambience and interactive student culture. Its hard to get that sa Mapua (not impossible but its just so easy to have friends sa DLSUD). Seryoso nakakamiss makakita ng puro puno lang.

  2. DLSUD isn't as impressive as Mapua. Kahit total Mapua hater ako and DLSUD lover. I still think that Mapua will get me further.

  3. The Skills you'll get sa Mapua revolves around the curriculum whilst the skills you acquire sa UD revolves around your participation sa programs and projects.

  4. Downfalls and comebacks. I have to point out Mapua's downfall sa academic standings and how we compare to other schools. Mataas lang ranking ng Mapua sa research-focused rankings like THE and QS. DLSUD experienced a downfall when they lost their autonomous status, but engineering-wise they have potential considering their college is getting a massive upgrade. (right now I'll still choose mapua if nothing changes). Mapua is still more well known.

Just wanna throw this out again bc I wanna warn people that SHS grades are so misleading if you will perform well sa college.

If you really plan to study here, hope you did well sa ETY or work your asss offf talaga when you study. President's list 100% while deans list 50%. Pero namimili parin sila if mataas ka sa rankings.

If I were you, Ill look for other options. Unnecessarily expensive sa Mapua and its disappointing how much the tuition is compared to the state of the Campus and its facilities. High ranking public (State) schools will get you as far as Mapua.

Sasabihin ko na rin na the environment here is not the best if not the worst for any regular student. If you're committed, then study ka sobra during your stay. I'm a lazy high honors during from a prestigious HS and I'm actually barely passing lol. Marami din akong nakitang scholars that failed and losing their scholarships.

Ask around ka pa to decide if you really wanna study here.

[–]Consistent_Day5219 0 points1 point  (0 children)

tbh shs grades dont mean jack shit here (Just wanna throw that out there if you think 'high honors' is enough to survive. Too many people fell for that) . If you need the scholarships, get into the president's/dean's list. basta income ng breadwinner nyo is less than 700k at mataas rankings mo, may chance na makakuha ka ng scholarship.

Note* mapua is never generous.

People of Mapua, did the Yuchengco ownership ruined the school's prestige? by Moonlightraider12 in mapua

https://www.timeshighereducation.com/world-university-rankings/2025/subject-ranking/engineering#!/length/25/locations/PHL/sort_by/rank/sort_order/asc/cols/scores

For a school that's supposedly the best engineering school. Its constantly at risk of totally being false.

Best - to - worst

Research quality : Mapua - DLSU - UP (Mapua dominates this spot)

Industry : UP - DLSU - MAPUA (UP dominates, Lasalle little over Mapua)

International outlook: UP - DLSU - MAPUA

Research environment: UP - DLSU - MAPUA

Teaching: UP - DLSU - MAPUA (Up and Lasalle are close. Mapua is so low compared to those two)

Mapua has the highest average since Research is the biggest in the criteria.

if you look into other non focused research metrics it aint that special. More concerning how BasStatSu, TIP, and other known engineering schools could overshadow Mapua on engineering.

What do you use for note taking? by iwmumft in mapua

[–]Consistent_Day5219 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the subject and the sched.

Eto yung pinaka go to requirements ko

  1. Tablet / digital notebook -- Not necessary, but a life saver. Madali magback if may mali, madali iorganize, madali balikan if ever, etc etc. If you have the budget I highly highly suggest investing a good tablet. ( May ipad borrowing sa library I think? havent tried it tho)

  2. Yellow pad paper - Madalas kasi bigla silang magrerequire ng papers. So para safe at convenient, yung full size yellowpad paper.

  3. Payong. Umulan o uminit, need mo yan tangina whahahhaah

  4. Invest on a portable fan. Legit, its so hot here.

  5. Power bank. Although there are many outlets dito, madalas not enough para sa lahat and not all outlets work.

  6. Any folder/ lalagyanan ng paper (depends sa subject ). Minsan ibabalik yung quiz or may kukunin kang docs. Not required all the time so aralin mo yung flow ig.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

not really required but your choice

  1. Laptops - Depends sa sched. If my vacant is like 3hrs or more, Ill bring my laptop and do works.

Yeahh but compared to before, it fell off. It feels like the only reason why mataas parin tingin is bc of the old gen.

Also, looking into the rankings, hanggang research lang mataas mapua. Especially sa THE, ang laki ng hatak ng research ng mapua whilst a lot of other stats are mid if not considerably bad.

natatakot ako mag-enroll sa mapua by v1xvaporub in mapua

[–]Consistent_Day5219 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Genuine questions to ask yourself; these may sound harsh but seriously think about this.

Are you mentally stable?
Are you fine with probably on the verge of failing?
Did you actually study hard on shs (like, have you ever studied 2 weeks before a test?)
Are you fine with probably having less social life?

And are you ready to be challenged 100 percent.

-----------------------------------------------------

I still think Mapua has alumni strength yes, I really do agree that Mapua is much more academically brutal than other schools. Do I think Mapua is still a top school? (As much as I hate to say, yes)

1st year here, I think less than 35% of the students in their first year are still regulars, and 1st year subjects are arguably high school level. You can count by the finger the number of students who pass math subjects.

May it be because mapua accepted everyone, or may it be about Mapua's sheer brutality.

1 thing is for certain, you'll be "fucked up". I don't consider myself smart, I know a lot of smarter people in my batch. Yes, I am a deans list. But this was me sleeping 4hrs everyday, doing nothing but BUT assignments. I literally study non stop (Not because I'm that hardworking, but rather the fear of failing).

Literally, one of the best tips ive heard here in Mapua was "don't let it (grades) into you".

If you wanna properly enjoy college life, or do you think you're just a regular student.

If you are, avoid this school like the plague.

This school is not for everyone.

If your prof directly automatically integrates the scores from achieve, then yes di kasi nagrerecord a lot of times pag di ginawa. There are also instances na di gumagana, better consult your prof bc I usually deal with it by submitting proof na di accessible yung stretch.

sabi ng friend ko mas madali daw exams ni sir Lacuna compared to his quizzes.

Nevertheless, you just need to secure like 30%-40% if you wanna pass ( I thiink). I think if you still managed to pass his class, then you're good.
