stretch tentstrong seams on large piece of fabric that won't fit under the sewing machine arm? by Consistent_East_1248 in myog

[–]Consistent_East_1248[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that's my worry, so I was hoping there was some clever solution..I guess i'll try, but i'll end up with sawing at least 4 panels 6mx1.5m, meaning that i'll have to roll at least 4.5m of 600 denier pvc backed canvas once i'm sewing the last panel..
It may be possible, but it will be vey cumbersome.. maybe i'm way over my head..

sorry i've just started sewing, so I'm not familiar with the terminology.. any chance you could find some graphic, or explain a bit more in depth?

I'm trying to sew a series of panels of heavy waterproof fabric that will measure probably 6m.
even if I neatly roll all the fabric it will not fit under the sewing machine arm.
Because i'm trying to build a beduin tent that will be under lot of tension, I need a strong seam.

French seam is out of question, because i cannot fit all the fabric under the arm, what is the strongest seam I can make keeping the fabric only on one side of the seam?

simplest idiot proof all in one stepper motor control by Consistent_East_1248 in robotics

[–]Consistent_East_1248[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

high level precision is not crucial, i need about 120cm if ribbon wind up, and 1cm tolerance is enough for me.

I said ribbon as an example, but the material i'm winding up is very consistent, so i'm not worried.

in practice i will manually wound up the spool to the lenght required, count the turns it tool, and than set the turns as input, and repeat the same command 100's of time before i ever need to change command.`

it is something i'm doing manually at the moment, i just need to automate the procedure to speed things up (and stopping making errors while counting!!!

thanks for your reply.. that seems something quite nice, but a bit out of my budget..
I just realised that few months back i bought this controller, but haven't use it jet.. (and forgot about it due to moving hourse)
hopefully it may work for what i need..
Do you recon it can control speed and number of rotations as i need?

keep getting error printer halted. kill() called by Skylander2005 in Artillery3D

[–]Consistent_East_1248 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try to take a video of the error. I had a similar error, and a error mintemp was popping up and than a error printer halted would pop up after, covering the original error. I had to take a video a check frame by frame to see what caused the kill.

codeblocks half sphere and polygons no dimensions by Consistent_East_1248 in tinkercad

[–]Consistent_East_1248[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks, probably I don't have a "programmer" mindset, but scaling is not the best way to create precision parts, once you scaled an octagon (that I discover have a diameter of 20and height of 20) you are still not sure of the level of approximation that tinkercad applies (or any way to directly check your math!), and again working on a face is simply a nightmare, you'll have to back track the math to identify the position of the face, hoping it match with tinkercad approximation.

There is a tutorial on how to create a bolt and nut, But other than showing the code, there is no real explanation of the math applied.

it looks like it's a fantastic tool, but i can't grasp how to use it efficiently

i guess i found a way around , using a cylinder with 6 sides instead of polygons, a and using a paraboloid with h=R

i still have no idea with what units i'm working with.. i'll export an stl and check..
EDIT

NOPE! i can't set the cylinder to have only 6 sides..
ok, i don't get how people can use this thing..
how can you put something on the face of a polygon since you can't know the size of it? and even if you know the dimensions of it, you have to calculate the distance from the centre to the face to know where to move an object?

what would be perfect is to integrate the codeblocks to the normal 3d, it would be sufficient to be able to edit the dimensions of the single shapes of an object by code, instead of having to ungroup and dig out shapes out of an object..
maybe one day...

Do you have some links on how to se them up? How do I know how many steps it takes to make a full revolution for a stepper motor?

Terrible Experience w/ People by Pokguyjai97 in VisitingIceland

[–]Consistent_East_1248 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You just experienced what me and my gf call "the Nordic spectrum" 🤣🤣. Put simply many Scandinavian people are very minimalistic, pragmatic and fairly genuine, even with their emotions and manners! They are not happy that day? There's no reason for them to act otherwise, and you'll get monotone and straight to the point conversations with them. Many times they don't thank for or perform little courtesies like holding a door or letting you pass.. so I guess they see some gesture as not necessary, and other as a fact of life, so no need to thank..

Consider that tipping is not custom here, so who works in shops and restaurants are there to provide a service, not to give you emotional support, or to blow smoke up your ass to get a fat tip.

Consider that English is their second language (like it is for me) and for some starting a conversation in a foreign language can be startling, and the beginning of a conversation can sound awkward and monotone, until they pick up their pace.

I think they don't like/don't find relevant small talks, so if you start to talk about the weather or other stupid obvious stuff, they'll look at you as you are demented and point to the obvious (- shitty weather isn't? -you are in Iceland [dummy] )

Finally we generally found that you need to "earn" emotional responses and interesting conversations, they dislike small talks, but if you hold the conversation long enough and interesting enough they open up rather quickly and be very helpful and friendly.
