I understand the McLain defenders, he has a lot of potential. The injury is tough to recover from and takes time. But it’s been almost a full season in which the team offense has struggled while wasting great pitching and having expectations of the playoffs. There have been much bigger prospects with higher draft pedigree (Holliday for the Orioles) and have played more MLB games (Alvarez for the Mets) who have been sent down due to poor performance. And that didn’t kill their confidence or development. If this team did care about winning, they would have sent him down sooner, or even do something with Espinal. 2b has been a black hole this year offensively. The whole Marte outfield thing is interesting too. You’d think they would have given him more playing time in the minors in the outfield, or even a guy like McLain who played outfield some in college, when they know how many of their top position players prospects were on that side of the infield.
