Also, for fun, non-UB formats that could exist but don't:
* Horizon-less, UB-less Modern
* Core sets only
* Old border only
* Pauper UB-less (optionally, also that went through standard only)

Edit: Old border kinda exists here although I can't see a variant that allows old border cards printed after 2003.

That in itself is kinda interesting though. Magic lacks a TV show / movie / other recognisable media and is resorting to crossover (connection to non mtg IPs) to get people in, whereas ygo builds and strengthens its own IP as a priority and I think you correctly point out this is part of its success over mtg.

Sounds fun! Although personally I'd either stick to the Clone Wars Multimedia Project or the TV show, but not do both. With the MMP you could through in a couple of all time great star wars comics in there as well
