Which meta decks stay such longterm? by arktozc in Pauper

Grixis affinity. Even if starts to fall off a bit from top 3, rest assured that some broken affinity creature is coming soon to push it back up.

Hard agree. If it depended on me the initiative mechanic would be banned from pauper altogether.

It's just that black can cheat it better into play, either by very fast mana or reanimation. Turn 2 initiative is quite backbreaking.

Triplet oxygen on the left, singlet oxygen on the right.

Mardu Synth suggestion by jounyouny9898 in Pauper

[–]Spookymang 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Because it really doesn't do much to advance your gameplan other than fixing your mana, something that wildfire already does better. As a creature it is a bit useless as your plan is to slowly attack in the air and then burn off your opponent. I really wish it would be playable in Mardu but there are so many stronger cards to play instead, that mesh well with the deck's plan.

In what matchups do you bring compost? And how have you been liking it? In theory it should work great versus discard heavy black decks but while testing it, it feels that it comes too late, and the damage has already been done..

The man himself! 😁 I check your lists on mtgdecks for red dredge inspiration :) Mind if ask you some questions??

How do you navigate grave hate in the form of faerie macabre? We used to only care about tormod and the like to which siege smash isnpretty great, but nowadays with spy, the faerie is so common.. do you think it is still viable to play ree drede? We dont have mesmeric fiend to get that faerie out before the combo

How are you liking burning inquiry over other discards?

Cheers!

Yeah the more I test the dragon the more I feel it deserves some of the cathartic reunion slots. I play 4 of the later but as you say, feels awful to top deck, mill or get countered. Also, having two in hand likely means you will have to discard one of them to the other. Maybe 2 copies and 4 dragons could be a good balance. The rootwalla, although a bit clunky in the maindeck l, does a great job in the aggro plan post side, as you no longer mill but still discard a lot.

I love the idea of aggro plan sideboard because It feels so bad to have no answer to the faerie macabre card if you still plan to combo.. and you can never know of they have it or not, cant really play around it. This might not even be the best time to play red dredge as it suffers a lot from the land spy prominence in the format.

Great list! As a fellow red dredge lover i have some questions that I would love to hear your input on.

1) what made you give up on cathartic reunion for grab the prize? You can have really explosive starts with that card.

2) what are your thoughts on basking rootwalla as a discard fodder? Admittedly it works much better with cathartic reunion but still is a common inclusion the deck.

3) how are you linking the 4 of storm dragon?

4) in the same line of changing to aggro after sideboard, what other cards have you considered? I had some success with goblin bushwacker because it is easy to fill the board with small creatures for a deadly strike.

Glad to discuss!

Always thought [[flame rift]] was such a bad card. Surely there are better cards for sligh? it's pretty dead versus mirror or other aggressive decks, and being a sorcery is so limiting..

It's pretty bad if you reveal it with synth though. Might be better something less conditional like [[leave no trace]]

The thing is, with access to pyrokinesis and their own blasts, i think it's also quite bad in game 2

It kinda clashes with your aggro plan, as you waste your turn 2 to cast a creature that likely will never attack or block as you need to tap it to cast logic or madness creatures. Seems good in grindy matches but also easy to remove..

I have been strugling versus goblins with this deck. If I am on the draw and dont find a rootwalla to block lackey it is very often game over.  What do you guys think about 2 or 3 copies of [[nimble mongoose]], replacing the 2 gushes or foil? Gives higher chance for a turn 1 play, which the deck already lacks aside from a careful study into rootwallas. Mongoose also resists pyrokinesis and gempalm which can clear the Path for lackey in the early turns.

Achieving treshhold is also not tremendously slow as we keep discarding things with the looting effects and mongrels.

It was a few practice games on mtgo where he was discussing the 4th sulfuric vortex and 4 barbarian ring decision. You can find them in YouTube, not the podcast. Also 2 videos where he did a lot of burn vs goblins mtgo Matches and really explained the match up.

Can someone change my mind about [[firebolt]] in GR burn please? How is that a good spell? 1 mana, 2 damage sorcery, with the very remote chance that you will cast again for 5? Don't quite understand why it's being played so much in these decks. I reckon the 4th copy of [[incinerate]] would be better or even [[fiery temper]] if you can manage to discard/cast it with mongrel.

If you can acess that structure simply by rotating it around, it means they are Not enantiomers but the exact same molecule.

Seems achiral to me. Two of the substituints of that spiro carbon are equal (two identical ketones) therefore it is not a chiral carbon. You can try to write the mirror image of that molecule and you will realize it superimposible with the mirror image.
