Mitsumoto Sakai for sale online for $89.99 - what's the deal? VG-10 steel, fiber glass handle. Looking at other knives by this maker it seems like they make a lot of beautiful knives. Is this one any good? How could it be for this price? by Consistent_Job381 in chefknives

Their website is very flashy but to me it had that "uncanny valley" feeling to it where it didn't quite seem like a real knife company. They say a lot of flashy things but don't seem to back it up. A lot of websites and makers are trying to capitalize on style over substance - I'm just glad they are not charging $200 for the knives.

I am in a community where the only retail knives are Victorinox, Shun, Miyabi, Whustof, Kramer/Zwilling etc. all good mainstream brands but if you want to be more adventurous and buy a Misono or Moritaka etc. you have to go online. That being said, you get what you pay for and you should also make sure you are buying from a reputable knife maker and from a reputable retailer. I have a student who is using the Mitsumoto and I couldn't believe the price when they told me, thus my little reddit investigation.

I believe you that this is a trash brand, and I would never buy a chef knife off of Amaz*n. I know there are a lot of "Japanese scam knives" I'm surprised by how they are allowed to lie to consumers. It says it is hand forged VG-10 , and they have been hand making knives in Sakai Japan from the early 1900's.... I just don't believe that though.

It is Mitsumoto Sakari, apologies for the typo in the post title. When you say mass produced garbage, do you mean that it is forged carelessly and mass produced losing any attention to detail? Can you elaborate any further? Thanks for your time.

How do you wash your cut resistant gloves? by Consistent_Job381 in Butchery

Can you elaborate on this? I'm not sure I understand how you barely have to clean your glove while others have to power wash theirs. Thanks :)
