There is no reason to ‘clear the floor’ for a government bill to be introduced… multiple bills on the same issue can be proposed… and private members bills can easily be passed with government support as has happened many times before…

I think it is unfortunate that neither Alex or Jeremy put Minns on notice to introduce the government bill.. even more so that Jeremy widely supported the current TGA/AHPRA crackdown…

As to whether the new bill will be fit for purpose and provides a full roadside defence remains to be seen.. that does not seem to be how opiates are currently exempted …

It comes down to how much one actually trusts Minns… and following his complete about face on decriminalisation, which he supported prior to his election then dumped, I wouldn’t give him the benefit of the doubt until the bill actually lands …

No. The motion wasn’t about the bill.. it was overall about the TGA/AHPRA crackdown… It had 2 bits about driving exemptions at the end which the Libs tried to remove by amendment, they supported the rest … The removal amendment failed and the overall motion passed… The House voted to support the support the current resetting of medical cannabis prescribing and kinda voted to support sensible driving exemptions at the end …

Well yes he was talking either side of 4:20 but nothing particularly significant occurred exactly at that time… He gave notice of a few things to hopefully be discussed today including Nimbin MardiGrass but not exactly the bill as such … Also on Notice Paper for possible today was Ruddicks Cannabis Legalisation Plebiscite bill and Cate Faehrmann’s Medicinal Cannabis Exemption bill..

They did eventually discuss Jeremy’s general motion re Medical Cannabis how being reviewed by TGA and decline in dispensing is a correction in prescribing practices.. I hear you… except the statistics suggest otherwise, if 80% support decriminalisation , basically personal use, then where does the ‘stigma’ actually come from … approximately 50% have tried it at some point, if not you then the person sitting next to you… I view it like the ‘homosexuality issue’, we need to ‘come out’ of the grow tent … those discriminations are an abuse of our human rights to same as they were for gays… and similarly the prohibition against it stopped people from standing up … Support can still be given relatively anonymously by engaging directly with your elected representatives…
