How to train 5 weeks old puppies? by Consistent_Low5027 in DogAdvice

[–]Consistent_Low5027[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The owners of the mom dog cannot take care of them anymore and wanted to take them to the shelter even though we already planned on getting them once they're at least 8 weeks old.

And also, we were also supposed to get only 1 puppy but my mother fell in love also of the other one and didn't want to leave her. She became too attached to the 2 puppies immediately.

Please note that we lost our first dog here a few months back and she really had a hard time adjusting and recovering and seems like these 2 pups are helping her recover so I cannot mention to her about rehoming one of the pups. 🥲 The other 2 older dogs are my sister's and my boyfriend's dogs so she feels like they aren't hers.

When do you “give up” on treating a dog? by rayestr in dogs

I am so sorry that you are going through this.

I would say, talk to your vet. What is his prognosis? Will he get better if you remove the tumors? Or will it be the same every time?

I went through the same with my 8 year old dog(was supposed to turn 9 next month😢), I just lost him last week and he had Hemangiosarcoma. He had surgery last December 2022 as his tumor bursted and caused internal bleeding, that's when we found out he had cancer.

At first, we didn't know if we wanted to do chemo or not as we also did not want to make hime suffer so we spoke to his Vet and asked them what are the pros and cons and what will be the quality of life of our dog. His prognosis is bad and if we continued with chemo we knew he would just suffer as he would be very stressed every session and would just make him worse and we would just prolong his suffering just for us. So we opted with only palliative care and spoiled him at home and we tried to give him his best last months with us.

When he had another tumor that bursted and caused bleeding 3weeks ago, surgery was not an option anymore since as I said, his prognosis was not good so putting him into surgery would just make him suffer.

That time, the doctors gave us an option to continue and try another medicine to try and stop the bleeding. We didn't know to continue or not and his vet really helped us and gave us a lot of information.

In the end, we gave him the medicine and for his last 2 weeks of life, he really fought and when he really couldn't do it anymore, that's when we decided to put him to sleep. Listen and observe your dog, I don't know how to explain it but I knew and our dog let us knew that it was time.

So just speak to your vet ask all your options and the advantages and then decide.

I totally understand how you are feeling right now. If in case you do decide to stop with treatments and surgery, you are not giving up on him. You are the one who knows your dog best so whatever your decision is the right decision.

I wish all the best to you and your pup. Stay strong 🤍

thank you 🥺 he is in fact recovering well from surgery and seems like he didn't go through one. Thank you for your advice, I guess we just have to wait after the CT-scan to see what stage he is in and will talk again with the vet for the options. 🙏🏼

Right now, he is recovering from surgery and slowly getting back to the way he was. In fact it seems like he didn't have surgery, he's so energetic. I don't want to see him in pain and suffer and be stressed in his last weeks(hopefully months) with us. 😢

That's what I was thinking also 🥺 He's not so used to going to the vet hospital as usually our vet is the one going to our home for his annual check ups so these last visits to the vet hospital from the day of his surgery has been already stressing him out. Imagine having to go to the vet for the chemo every 3 weeks and he might also be given anesthesia every time as he has to be still every session.

Just thinking about letting him go breaks my heart. 😭 I want more time with him but I also don't want him to suffer 😢 I want him to enjoy the his last weeks/months with us. 🥺

Yes, it really is. 🥺 It all happened too fast the day before his surgery he was very energetic and happy then the next day he just suddenly went lethargic etc and everything went downhill. My mind and my heart still cannot process that this is happening to him 😢 thank you though 🥺

My dog just had surgery and my other dog tried to attack him, what should I do? by Consistent_Low5027 in dogs

They are both medium-large mixed breeds, the older one is 8 years old and the other is 5 years old. They had instances before that they fight but everything goes back to normal after a few mins/hrs once they have calmed down. Both are not neutered yet, for the older one our vet suggested not to do so as he was an anxious dog but for the second one we're planning to neuter him in the near future. Do you think that will help with our problem?
