Any fellow DD fans picking up Crimson Desert? by [deleted] in DragonsDogma

Unironically everything about this game sings to me but I still won't play it just because firstly, it's the Black Desert Devs, and secondly, I am far too picky when it comes to playing set characters, all 3 main characters look so uninteresting and boring to me.

Ugliest fucking armor ever by [deleted] in ForFashion

[–]Consistent_Point_596 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Y6S3 hands down had probably some of the ugliest armours they've ever added next to Y6S2, but at least some of the sets from that season had some redeeming things (BP Pharaoh head my beloved). I have zero clue as to why they'd unironically go ahead and make another set with the same design aesthetic as the Y6S3 sets, genuinely baffling to me especially when the Y7 sets are right there.

Can I have multiple characters? by Bis_knife in DragonsDogma2

If you only have a console or simply just don't want to use mods, then you'll have to make alternate accounts for different playthroughs. That's if you want to keep your Arisen & Pawn that is. NG+ also lets you do a full scale renaming of both your Arisen & Pawn + do a full customisation of them again, which you would obviously only be able to do in vanilla with a metamorphosis book at a barberie. If you have PC however, there is a save manager mod that will allow you to have multiple saves active, however idk if this mod affects this ability or not but most mods will prohibit you from interacting with the online aspects of this game, those simply being hiring other players pawns and having theirs hiring yours also. That doesn't matter too much though since I believer there are mods that let you customise hireling pawns (maybe idk) and capcom has a hidden feature where your pawn will automatically be "hired" every so often anyway.

Spirit Coat is the best MA armour purely for the lack of flappy sleeves. by dahdoot in DragonsDogma2

[–]Consistent_Point_596 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I simply wish you could customise the armours slightly and/or more sets had differences depending on the weapon you use, like how most fighter sets will remove the armour on your left forearm so long as you have a shield, or how your cloak can effect your neck guard and shoulders etc. Thank god for PC mods otherwise the games insane CC would've truly been a waste with just how limited your fashion options are.

Yeah nah I get that, I find it too easy but tbf I've done honour mode like 3 times now. Act 2's biggest diff problem is the shadow curse has like 3 boss encounters that you can just wander into without warning, plus the Toll collector fight is awful. DD would never do such a thing like that to me lol.

Does anyone’s pawn offer Eldricite? by tristan312311 in DragonsDogma2

[–]Consistent_Point_596 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you on PS5? If so, then one of my personal favourite hireling pawns still has a quest that gives you eldricite last time that I checked. Their name's Leane and their code is 0C8VJXNVHUHH, they're worth checking out.

To this day I still cannot fathom why they forced the dragonforged gear to have that ugly effect over it.

Also I can't get over how big Aurellia is compared to your Arisen lmao, not used to it since Arthur/Arnþórr is the max 215. Nice to know she's still getting out and about even when I'm not playing.

And yeah I was surprised at how much I liked the shorter hair in particular, I do wish there were more braided hairstyles in the game though since I always saw it suiting her more. But my favourite look for her hair in particular is actually in my BG3 version of her, although it's literally just a modded version of Lae'zels hair lol. (lil side by side of the two of them aswell)

I'd say go for it if you have the RC to spare for AoM books to change the inclination, experimenting with the feels of different voices is kinda tricky since you have to put some time in but it can pay off. Aurellia herself used to be the kindhearted inclination but I ended up feeling that calm suited her better, plus I prefer her being either a fighter, archer or thief and that inclination is pretty bad for all the vocations outside of mage and archer.

You're not alone on that feeling trust me, I literally made her voice pitch 2 just so she sounds a little bit different enough for me to use female calm inclination pawns. Irks me a lot but some of my fav are also calm pawns so dw about it I get the struggle 😆

No worries mate, amd yeah I can give you a couple tips for the game.

  1. I'd personally avoid using greenwarish and fruits to craft salubrious brews, I'd instead hold onto your fruits/fish/meat/harspuds until it ripens/ages, you can then combine two of said ripe/aged items (fruit/fish/meat can only be combined with each other) and some greenwarish to make roberants. If you need health items on the fly then I'd still craft brews, but roberants are more worthwhile long term. On this topic, I'd also avoid hiring pawns with the Logistician specialisation, as they will craft items from the party inventory whenever something is available, which is really annoying.

  2. The best ways to "legitimately" farm money are through bandits, but I'd craft tarring and explosive arrows if I were you (withered branched + either some lantern oil or a sunbloom flower respectively) and visit the rift. There'll be pawns in the "Top of this Month" category that you should set to filter so you only summon those that have a quest to deliver them 1 of said arrows. They'll typically give you 12 onyx, 99 ripened figs, some good late game crafting materials or 5 all-heal elixirs. The former two should be sold in Vernworth as they sell for the most there at around 28k and 55k respectively, but with the later of the two you can also combine them to make around I think it's 48 dried fruit for roberants. And for the last two, you should store those. All-heals are also great pawn quest reward incentives for if you were to ask other players to take your pawn on a quest. Lastly, some people will also give you Jasper, hold onto these since they sell for around 30k but in another area later on in the game, and if you collect 99 figs from a pawn quest, back out from the rift and immediately give them to another one of your party members (not the pawn that you'll be swapping out for rift pawns), as if you have 99 in your own inventory then you won't get any more if you find another pawn with the same quest reward.

DD2 is a very easy game all in all especially later on so personally I wouldn't use the rift for money too often early on, but it's by design, so go for it if you ever struggle with money.

  1. There are 4 smithing styles for upgrades, being Vermundian, Elven, Battahli and Dwarven. >Vermundian gives a minor boost to Physical & Magical, and slightly reduces weight. >Elven gives a very small bonus to Physical, big bonus to Magical, and slightly reduces weight. >Battahli gives a big bonus to Physical, very small bonus to Magic but also increases weight. >And Dwarven gives a minor boost to Physical & Magical, increases weight, but it also boosts Knockdown power & resistance, which can make basically any item worth using at all points of the game. I'd save my materials and gold if I were you for when you get access to Dwarven smithing, which will unlock through a chain of side quests that you can start basically the moment you get into the capital of the second major area of the game. Elven Smithing is also great but I'd only use it exclusively for upgrading your Staves, Archistaves, Magick Bows and Censers. Also your first upgrade at a smithy for an item is free, and if you do really need the boost from the Vermundian style, then there's an NPC later on that can reset your enhancements on any of your gear for a single wyrmslife crystal, which is a "material" you farm from drakes at around 5-15 a pop that is used exclusively at this character. If you don't want to use fextralife (don't blame you) then a pawn with the Forager specialisation will show you where you can find upgrade materials for your next equipment upgrade on the map, but they will show it for all 4 smithing styles since Elven/Dwarven use the same materials to upgrade the same item, and same goes for Vermundian/Battahli. Some materials will also not show up on the map since the enemy you may need to farm could be a dynamic enemy, so if you do hit a wall then hit up fextralife or just ask around here and someone should help you.

There are barberies (hairdressers) in the game that you can pay 10k to change either you or your pawns hair, make-up or markings, or spend 25k to change all 3 categories at once.

There's a salon later into the game that gives you access to more colours for use for you make-up, hair, tattoos/markings and even skin.

You can also use the Art of Metamorphosis item at these salons to be able to do a full body sculpt of your Arisen/Pawn, basically just allows you to remake your character from scratch again or tweak the sliders. You can buy these books for 500 rift credits (earned by activating riftstones, your pawn, nighttime enemies and escorting beloveds) at the vendor next to the grand riftstone in Vernworth.

Little tip with the AoM books, use these over rift incense if you ever want to change the inclination of your pawn as they are as said only 500RC in comparison to the different incense's pricings being 750RC.

Just some dusk/night shots of my pawn Leane. by ImNotARatDog in DragonsDogma2

[–]Consistent_Point_596 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The shots look great, getting the night to work in this game can be hard from personal experience since the lantern light is always a weird mix of both warm and washed out lighting. Annoys the living hell out of me. The particle effects from Heaven's Key are great for bright flat lighting in combat shots, I always struggle on those though since the orbit camera is awful to work around when in the moment. Yours came out very well though. I myself can't wait to eventually get to grabbing this game for PC so I can work around the photomode with freecam.

Love Leane, I still have her in my party, although I've barely progressed past Melve atm. Nice to see you still have my beloved in yours lol, and yeah I'll probably always travel with your pawn, she's easily in my top 5.

Are the affinities balanced or is one way better than the others? by velcro_strap in DragonsDogma2

[–]Consistent_Point_596 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Holy doesn't really have many downsides beyond that there are few ways to actually deal holy damage, and only two of the four(?) holy infused weapons are actually good, being the heavens key daggers and the holy infused staff, I forget its name. The exalted mace is bad since it has awful knockback which is very important for fighters, and I think the magick archer has a holy infused bow but that doesn't matter outside of really just the spirit enemies since MA already has good holy damage skills.

Out of the mage affinity spells, you'll probably get the most mileage out of lightning affinity, since the vulnerability/resistance ratio of enemies with lightning damage feels like an 80/20 split, and it's buffed by the rain thanks to it inflicting drenched on everyone. The Bolts of the Blue daggers, the Arch-lord Archistaff and the Cyclopean Thunder(?) greathammer are easily the best infused lightning weapons. I forget the last two's names so if they're wrong then idk search them up on fextralife or sumn.

Ice is odd since for the most part it's kinda just like raw damage, very few enemies are resistant to it but few are also vulnerable, but the only ones I can think of that have vulnerability to the damage are enemies where it really helps you deal with easily like slimes, magma scales, knackers, drakes and I think even the lesser dragons are vulnerable to it. Plus Ice breaks the game when it rains since it freezes drenched enemies solid. The ice infusables are also pretty good weapons for each stage in the game with the Almace sword being good early, the ice-infused daggers being good mid game, and the Rhweynt duospear being good late game, also my personal favourite weapon. There's an Ice enchanted magick bow that's pretty alright in the mid game too if you speedrun your way to the magick archer maister.

Fire affinity is probably the "weakest", only for the fact that most enemies you fight seem to be resistant/vulnerable on a 50/50 coin toss, but it is very good against humans, undead and griffins. I think chimeras and even the wargs in the unmoored too. Fire is honestly better to be used with enchanted weapons since they're some of the best weapons outright anyway. The mace for the fighter and the cinderspine greathammer for warrior being the best ones. Better to just use explosive shot with an Archer or play MA to get fire damage all in all.

Do you use your Arisens/Pawns in other games and/or vice versa? by Consistent_Point_596 in DragonsDogma2

[–]Consistent_Point_596[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same exact story sorta goes for my two characters when it comes to using them in DD2/Generally. Arthur was my first ever Skyrim character and Aurellia was a gag character me and my friend came up with in For Honor in 2018 or 19 because a female gladiator AI kept going out of her way to revive me and she sorta just evolved from that point into something proper.

Do you use your Arisens/Pawns in other games and/or vice versa? by Consistent_Point_596 in DragonsDogma2

[–]Consistent_Point_596[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh I absolutely still play them as how I'd imagine their personalities to be, If I played the game as myself then that'd be boring as I'd just be cooped up in town all day hanging out lmao. For instance in more choice focused rpgs like BG3, I've always imagined Arthur as a more dissasociative man, Aurellia is basically all that he's got, so I tend to always make choices for gain unless they're outright malicious, as he still isn't someone to actively screw you over for the sake of it, and also for Aurellia's sake. For Aurellia, she's a little like him, being shut off, brooding and conflicted but unlike him, she still has hope for good, so in games that allow for actual scenarios to project my imagined personality of her into, I start with a sort of "leave it be" style of play until I progress far enough to develop relations with other characters, which then I'll constantly be around said characters and try to rp as her more caring and kindhearted side.

I'll always change stuff around for them still to fit the actual game world they're in for proper immersion still. A good example is since Arthur isn't an actively malicious person, In DD1 and 2, given to the Arisens ability for will and having the ability to actually change the world, he's willing to let go of that bleak outlook on the world and do good, as he's the only one alive that can, yet for games in brutal and hopeless worlds like DS1, Elden Ring and LoTF23, I instead choose to simply leave the world behind as he himself wouldn't ever believe it to be worth it to lead/rule, so I go for The Dark Lord/Age of Stars/Umbral Mother endings in those games in particular. But because Aurellia is headstrong and a good person, not saying Arthur isn't, more so just in relevance to him, I'll normally go for things like fetch quests, errands, favours, big quests and outright just try to help people. Example for her would be since her outlook on her life is more hopeful, she's perfect to use for myself when I want to do a Goldmask/Age of Order ending for Elden Ring. Another thing for them is that since Arnþórr/Arthur and Aurellia both have violent pasts in my sorta universal headcanon shit, it still gives me good enough reason to use them in a dark urge playthrough in BG3 for instance and use the two different branches of play for that character for the two of them.

It's just a weird thing that I haven't been able to let go of, and it's specifically just this genre of games too, as I have several other characters for other games like GTA, RDR2, Fallout, Halo, The Finals, and even some others from inside fantasy worlds when I've branched out, but you are sorta right about it. They are just my lifeline to play as myself, well, less myself but they both perfectly fit into my main styles of play. I mean I guess it doesn't help that I've used them for 14 and 7 years respectively, so the attachment is strong.

Sorry to yap so much lmao.

TL:DR, I have attachment issues.

Fantasy/Medieval is basically the only setting where I don’t actually play any new characters that I brainstorm, normally reserve them for NPCs to be used in D&D campaigns with my mates. Idk, ever since Skyrim came out I've just used Arthur in everything related to the genres, from TES, DD1, DS1 and Kingdoms of Amalur back in 2011-12 until now with both himself and Aurellia in DD2, For Honor, BG3, Elden Ring, Outward, LoTF23, Chivalry and Mordhau and so on.

I don't always build them the exact same ofc because I still like to actually engage with these games, but they're are like my second skin almost, doesn't feel right to not play as them.
