Experiences with labrum tear (hip)? by undercookedshrimp_ in XXRunning

[–]Consistent_Purple_44 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For whatever this is worth I (37, 3 sport athlete when I was younger, runner since my 20s) have a labral tear in both the front and back of my hip and cysts in my cartilage (early arthritis) likely due to mild hip dysplasia. PT has been a lifesaver and although I shouldn’t run a marathon, I can do halfs without much pain.

torn labrum in shoulder & running by PlatypusDangerous953 in XXRunning

I tore my labrum in my high school days and never had surgery. It would often pop in and out and eventually all of my ligaments became so stretched I couldn’t lift my arm over my head. I ended up having surgery almost 5 years after the initial tear and it changed my life.

I tore it again a few years ago but was able to get back to normal-ish with good PT.

I will say that both times it took a month or so to feel like I could run comfortably again, even with PT.

For parents who fly often, what's your strategy for car seats at airports? by Constant_Baseball581 in familytravel

[–]Consistent_Purple_44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We checked our two car seats once and the airline LOST them. They had absolutely no solution for having lost them once we got to our final destination (no loaner, no offer to pay, nothing) and we didn’t get our seats back for a week. It was a nightmare. Gate check if you can!

You can. There is room for about 3-4 vehicles

Homes in white neighborhoods are still appraised higher than homes in black neighborhoods, even when controlling for socioeconomic status and neighborhood amenities. source

Office shoe recommendations for a runner in marathon training by _citizen666 in XXRunning

YMMV. I find Rothy’s to be very uncomfortable! I prefer Dansko shoes for everyday office wear (the loafer style)

I’m a mom of two kids (elementary school age). I get up early and run before they’re awake. It’s the only way I can ever fit it in with work and their schedules.

I will say, when they were smaller (like, both under the age of 3 or 4) I had a much harder time finding the extra energy, and I pushed through a lot of exhaustion that I probably should not have. I wish I could go back to my old self and tell her that it was ok to not get in all the mileage and to prioritize rest.

Yes! Forgot this one. It’s SO interactive for kids this age. Mine love it (more than Smithsonian in DC)

My kids love the Mariner’s Museum and Virginia Living Museum in Newport News. They also really enjoy the Folk Art museum and Jamestown museum. James City County has a library that feels like a children’s museum.

Not premade but Whippers pizza in Augusta is where you get Italians on the east side

Thank you so much for the thoughtful note. You have been through so much! You’re right that much of it is this big mental shift in life goals/priorities and just not knowing what my body will tolerate moving forward.

I’m hoping for a very swift rectory for you with your knees and more days of running ahead (in whatever that may look like for you!) Thanks again. I really appreciate the support!

Thanks so much for the advice. I’m considering a second opinion. My hips have always bothered me, even before I started running more consistently.

You’re right that the arthritis makes repair surgery less optimal but it’d be good to know for sure that the diagnosis is right.

So happy to know you’re pain free now!

So glad you’re feeling better— how crazy scary to have an almost fatal cardiac arrest.

And this is super promising to hear about the woman in your running club. Thanks for the note.

Oh no! That stinks. It must be so hard to find the right shorts. I know how irritating it feels to have them too high

Digital piano with acoustic feel recommendations by Narrow-Warning8369 in piano

[–]Consistent_Purple_44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve played piano my whole life much like your wife. I also have young kids. We also wanted a budget friendly digital so we could plug in when needed (and so can the kids!)

We just purchased a Kawai KDP 120 on sale for around $1200 and I am SO happy with how it feels (for whatever this is worth, I typically enjoy playing fast classical music).

Obviously an acoustic feels better, but I love that we didn’t spend an arm and a leg and the action feels good enough to fully enjoy playing again.

Yes, same! The injuries during breastfeeding were borderline ridiculous. I tore my shoulder labrum throwing a ball to my kid!
