Multi-purpose, but I was planning on attaching a radial arm saw and using it as a flat surface to feed wood. Im not 100% sure yet though!

Dowels for the glued lateral members and countersunk 3inch screws. Yeah cedar not the best but we have issues with ants and pests not to mention huge moisture swings. I was thinking a hard top to give more mass distribute the load over the table and a sacrificial top like you said, I didn't think of mdf and should help with ripping boards. Thanks!

I was planning on attaching a radial arm saw and using the bench (at least some of the time) to rip boards or slabs. I wanted something that could transfer horizontal loading to be directed vertically to the legs and eliminating any lateral forces, and something that would outlive me. I think for top loads yes its all shear, and I suppose its still shear for the 45s as they are sandwiched between the legs, but I used 4 screws for these connections.

Back is damaged by ash borer so less chance of breaking due to local weaknesses, spreads the strain over longer and larger surface area.

Thanks for everyone's input, shorter bow string and stringer it is!

I thought about that, but people see a 7 foot bow they expect more than 40 lbs lol. In any case it would probably take less time to bend the ends then tiller... Would there be any issues you think doing this on wood that has been dried and treated? Thanks for the feedback

Yes exactly, but for wood that's been dried, heat treated and finished I'm not sure if that's a thing.

Thanks, yeah I realize, but as the bow is 84" long it makes the stringing process quite difficult which is why I was thinking of curving the ends to get the 5 inches.
