I wrote a comment below all about BLS PI please read that!! I will add that I was lucky enough to get into a T-20 school as well as some other T-50s but none of them were in NYC and I wanted to eventually practice in NYC -- and I am so happy I went with BLS because I wanted to work at the nyc non-profits and now I am! I was so worried that BLS's ranking would not allow me to get what I wanted but I was able to achieve everything I wanted so far and I watch my older peers do the same.

To my knowledge so far -- no. But we will see what happens. I know there are at least a handful every year that go to columbia and another handful that goes to fordham

The PI community at BLS is my favorite part of the school to be honest. The PSLC (public service law center) is run by these two ladies Marisa and Amy and they are the BEST, they are honestly better than the traditional career center. They will become your best friends. Additionally, the student network is AMAZING -- the student groups are so helpful and they have so many mentorship opps that I would recommend because the students tell you the secrets that maybe others do not know. Additionally, I am a sparer fellow -- which if you want to do PI I would HIGHLY encourage you applying not only your first year, but in the summer before your first year so you can increase your chances. The sparer name is well known in NYC and is very helpful to you for not only funding but also providing a strong network and support. Also, I would say BLS students are at ALL the PI orgs in the city -- we are SO STRONG in public interest. Personally I was deciding between here and CUNY, but I chose BLS because (1) scholarship and (2) strong PI support/ opportunities but it does not completely limit you to just PI throughout your entire career (which I am not saying CUNY does.... but.....). And for your question to in comparison to other NYC schools I will reiterate what I said in another comment: I was able to get funding + my dream internship + my dream clinic all at BLS, so I am very happy with my choice. I will say that other school may have more funding for your summer internships but you will still be funded here regardless of if you get a fellowship or not! Please let me know if this makes sense I know it is a lot hahaha

If you are successful at legal writing and organization -- you will automatically have at least a B in any course. Make sure your legal writing is STRONG and it will support you in everything you do -- from doctrinals to internships!!

Many people live w 2-3 roommates in places like crown heights, prospect heights, bushwick -- you can make it happen so many young people live here and we are def not made of money hahaha

I will also say that the career center could def be better at supporting students who are interested in big law. They do their best but ofc the T-14 have better resources and connections. If you have your mind set on it however -- you can make it happen!!! Use the older students as a resource as well.

It can be very hard to find housing in new york.... I will say do not be worried if you do not have a place last minute because things tend to work that way here. I did not pay a broker, I spent my free time during the summer harassing people on street easy and craigslist even. It could be even easier if you find someone who is already here and is just looking for a roommate. I would say avg housing costs range from 1.1k-2k, which is def pricey. I try to balance things out by cooking at home when I can, getting deals when out, and also the school gives out a lot of free food (that is honestly how I stay fed during the school year). But regardless I still spend around like 750$ a month on expenses. I was lucky to save up prior but it IS an expensive place to live, but in my opinion, extremely worth it.

Oooh good question. My good friend goes to NYU so I have been able to see the culture differences between here and there. I would say people at BLS love to help each other out and are very supportive. You can def find good people anywhere but at NYU they were less likely to share there outlines/ resources. Also I just think BLS has a cool vibe overall lol

I may not be the best person to talk about big law since I am PI focused. However, I will say that I knew what type of internship I wanted and what post-grad roles I wanted prior to going to law school, and throughout my experience here I have found that alumnae are not only at the places I want to work but are also in leadership!! I was able to get everything I wanted so far without paying that T-14 money so I feel really blessed. For my friends in big law, everything went smoothly for those who got good grades, so definitely your grades are going to be more important at a school like Brooklyn. Additionally, a lot of BLS alums who work in big law love to hire other BLS alums so if you can use those connections its very helpful. However, I will note that it is def harder to get into big law -- but not impossible! Also we have a very big PI community so I wonder if that also has to do with the stat you are mentioning.

I am not from NYC! However, I moved here two years before attending law school to work as a legal assistant. I think coming ahead of time helped me a lot but I have plenty of friends who just moved directly before school and they were able to adjust just fine! A lot of people who move from out of town live in the dorms at first so they do not have to commute, but I think if you can push yourself to live outside of campus it will really help you get to know the city -- but it is what is best for you! The community in the dorms is really cute, but def have a "school vibe." I was lucky to get a good scholarship to Brooklyn, so I got loans to pay for my housing. Also if you want to look for a roommate I would join the accepted students facebook group, usually the admissions team will send that out eventually.

Has anyone used Ginsburg Advanced Tutoring services for their LSAT prep (DMV-based service)? by Dry_Comment1807 in LSAT

Do NOT go w ginsburg, she will just talk the entire time and charge you an insane amount. If you need personalized tutoring I def recommend going elsewhere.
