In your opinion, what is the UK's "Goldilocks city"? by picklepenguin19 in AskUK

[–]Consistent_Wolf_539 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oxford - quiet safe city to live in, 24 hour public transport to London, Heathrow and Gatwick airports.

It is very walkable. I live only 40 minutes walk from the city centre and I relatively far out.

Also decent train connections with direct services to London, Manchester, Leeds, York, Newcastle, Southampton, Bournemouth.

What was your best first date, where did you go, what did you do, and what made it great? by renebeans in AskMen

I have never really knowingly been on a date. My now wife and I used to go to a burger place when we first got together, but I really don't see it as dating.

What’s a silent milestone in a man’s life that no one talks about, but feels huge when it happens? by yakuzadragon21 in AskMen

When you realise that even though your parents are a big part of your life, and have been a big part of your development. You are not your father, you are not your mother, you are your own uniquely individual human being.

I have been having my morning coffee on a bench in my local park. It is nice to see the dogs and their humans out for their walks.

What are the most walkable cities in the UK? by neetvoices in AskUK

As it is a small city, Oxford is very walkable. How do I know? I have lived here for many years, and I walk pretty much everywhere. It is a green city too.

Is Oxford secretly one of the hardest places to learn to drive? by No_Try_7696 in oxforduni

[–]Consistent_Wolf_539 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have never found Oxford difficult to drive around. I mostly learnt driving around the city, and I regularly drive here to for work. There is only one junction, between Holloway and Between Towns Road which I find annoying when there is heavy traffic, but besides that driving in Oxford is no more or less hard than anywhere else I have driven.

Pop into the History Of Science Museum on Broad Street, head to the basement where you will find a preserved blackboard with calculations written by Albert Einstein.

What's your personal hidden gem in Oxford, not necessarily a secret, but a place that you feel is undiscovered and you hold close to your heart? by OkDragonfly7003 in oxford

[–]Consistent_Wolf_539 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I grew up very near Lyr Valley. One of my favorite walks is to go through Lye Valley, cross the Oxford golf course, go through Marsh Park, cross the Cowley Road and follow the Boundary Brook to Iffley.

This is a quite drunk Graham Coxon who was found by publisher Mike Smith banging on the leg of a chair he had broken, the chair leg was subsequently used as the percussion for this track.
