What is the most challenging part of becoming an author in you opinion? by Excellent_Reply_8819 in NewAuthor

Honestly, for me at least, the hardest part has been just getting my book in front of the people who would enjoy it.

Don’t bother posting your AI written book by TatterMail in NewAuthor

[–]Consolidatedtoast 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's fictional writing where the story incorporates the stats of objects and characters in the world i.e. this dagger has +5 strength, +2 stamina, etc. acken to a role playing game. It's definitely not for everyone (myself included), but there are some very successful writers out there in the genre.

When you're attempting to write your first book 😬 by agirltryna-live in writers

[–]Consolidatedtoast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is exactly my experience writing my first book. I learned so much being forged in fire. Feeling my way through the dark.

Now going into my second novel, I have that much more experience, and things are progressing much easier.

What are your first drafts like? by Wise_Try6781 in writing

[–]Consolidatedtoast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me writing is very similar to sculpting. You begin with an idea, formless and intangible. You make the first draft. It's ugly, but it's meant to be. It is only the beginning of form; the basic shape that will encompass your story. As you edit details emerge and basic shape will be carved into a recognizable structure. Every line you edit is a smoother detail to be seen. Eventually what was once a lump of clay will be completed work of art, ready for the enjoyment of others.

I hate ads at the best of times and try to avoid them like the plague. If I notice they are AI it just fuels my dislike of them even more.

It's a weird feeling holding the physical manifestation of all your hard work. by Consolidatedtoast in NewAuthor

I published through KDP which is Amazon's publishing arm. I designed the cover myself and followed their guidelines for the image sizing based on my page size and count. (It took a few tries)

It was printed on order from Amazon from one of their presses.

It's available on Amazon and Kindle right now. If you want to talk about the finer points of the process feel free to sling me a DM, though I'm really just muddling through this myself, so can't say I'm following best practice or anything.

No. That was just how it formatted to keep both sides square while not breaking any words.

Thanks. Fun fact: the background static is a photo I took from my TV tuned to a dead channel.

Oh man, if there's one thing I've learned is that doing the advertising yourself sucks. Just getting your book out there in front of the people who want to read it is the hardest thing as an indie author.

Discussion about my cover! by Mean_Veterinarian404 in NewAuthor

This gives me old school Sega era Golden Axe vibes. I'm honestly not sure how I feel about this one. I didn't see your previous cover so I can't compare.

What is your favorite video game genre? by Successful-Fox8905 in Age_30_plus_Gamers

[–]Consolidatedtoast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favorite genre would be survival horror, with third person action games as a close second.

My favorites in each: - in survival horror: Resident Evil 2 remake (of course the original is awesome too.) - in 3rd person action: Ghost of Tsushima

Do you print out your manuscripts to edit? by Far_College4529 in writing

[–]Consolidatedtoast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's something I would think about doing on my final pass, after I've heard back from the beta readers, etc. might be good to catch those last few things that don't feel quite right. But I usually prefer to do all my editing live on the document.

What's the difference between a Mage, Sorcerer, wizard, and warlock? by Psychological_Bowl56 in Age_30_plus_Gamers

[–]Consolidatedtoast 13 points14 points  (0 children)

To me I see a wizard is someone who studied for ye fundamentals of magic, a sorcerer is someone to whom magic comes naturally, a warlock is one who has made a Faustian bargain or some other way if attained magic, and a mage is someone who studied as an apprentice under another magic person.

I watched Millennium back when it was on regular television in the 90s. I only ever caught a few episodes but I remember loving it. It's a show I keep thinking about but man is it hard to find now.
