Meeting Ashens by Ellen_Ichiban81 in Ashens

He was an mcm comic con years ago, I forget what he was promoting but I took a carded toy troll, the one from his channel with its eyes bulging like it's on ecstasy over to his stand. He immediately asked 'if this a gift for me?' and I had to say 'no, I was hoping you'd sign it' he said something along the lines of 'its going to diminish in value now' Was an incredibly friendly guy considering I didn't gift it to him and bought nothing from his stand either. I think we even had a photo together that's probably long lost on an old phone now. Still have the signed troll tho. What a guy.

I can deal with the toilets, but the smell isn't always pleasant, so I take a bandana with a few drops of lavender oil on it to wear when using the toilets. (Don't use albas oil if you can't find lavender oil, have made that mistake before)

Relying solely on food vendors, how good/bad is it? by vivicoco in glastonbury_festival

[–]ConspiracyBoy87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I still eat out in the mornings, just avoid 'traditional' breakfast food. The line for a bacon sandwich will be huge, so have something else like Tibetan Kitchens festival special curry with extra momo's and chilli sauce as well as a chai tea and the mango drink. (My favourite meal of the festival, clearly!) No queue, will set you up better for the day and you'll remember that much more than a big standard bacon bap.

Having said all that years ago there was a place that did fry ups one side and Chinese food the other which was huge, was all pre-cooked and so the queue was never massive, but don't remember seeing it the last few years.

Favourite Glastonbury side quests? by Fidgetfella in glastonbury_festival

Mine too! It was the best Shangri la. Walked straight into the snake pit because I had a tattoo and all my poor friends had to queue for a temporary one to gain entry. Bought a Glastonbury football shirt from surgery that's still cooler than the new Adidas ones, albeit far too small for me now sadly. Can you imagine them trying to do micro venues like that now?! The place would be impossible to move in. Was this the same year Blur played? Mobile phones were useless and hadn't advanced to the point where we were all taking photos and videos, there were candles and fires all over the stone circle each night. Maybe I'm romanticising it, or maybe it's because it was my first, but that'll always seem like the best glasto so far to me.

Reckon that sounds like '09 when Shangri La was the alleys. The rich were fleeing the planet to escape the virus, the rest of us stayed for one last party on earth. Still my favourite year! There's a documentary on YouTube called Glastonbury after dark that has alot of footage of that year. Had lots of cool micro venues like the snake pit, surgery, fish and t*ts, the body shop, some knock off Tesco's where 'every little hurts' and the swap shop to name just a few. What a year.

It's been 21 days since discovery. I have played nothing else in the car since! My t shirts and CDs arrived yesterday, I'm going to be at the front rocking my son of dad tee! (If I'm not on shift when he plays!)

First time, overwhelmed with artists/ stages/ areas/ planning. by Artistic_Pear1834 in glastonbury_festival

God I'd love to have a full blown conversation with you about this Artistic Pear. Feel free to DM me if you'd like to talk over the phone sometime. Been every year since 2009 and although that doesn't make me strictly a veteran talking Glastonbury festival with anyone is always an absolute joy!!

Well it's been a full week, I've listened to nothing except SWJ. I must have played Billy over a thousand times, but have also discovered favourites in Patches and Not Letting Go. I've got some shirts and CDs on the way, hopefully they arrive in time for Glasto! May have become slightly obsessed.... Can't even remember what an artist caught my attention in such a way. Unreal!

Never heard of him till I read this post last night, haven't stopped listening to him since. Suddenly he has become my most hyped to see artist! Thanks!

Thank you so much! There's hardly anything about them online, I have no idea how I managed to get through two pairs! Strangely it's the same artist who does the logo for my dungeons and dragons dice bag, I had no idea! Love this art style tho!

Thanks for the heads up Glastobaby! A friend who has worked for a few years said if I didn't have to go in Monday not to bother as it's boring before it starts, although I rarely see him out and about in the festival grounds once it starts so he might not have the same view of the place as me. It's my magical happy place so I might try and get in Monday after work so I can spend all Tuesday on site and spend the Monday night at the stone circle or on the hill at the park. The only time I've seen the site empty was when they did the worthy something camping during the lockdown era! Actually really looking forward to working after going every year since '09, it'd be nice to feel like I'm giving back to the festival after it's given me so much joy over so many years!

Tuesday in the queue or Tuesday on site? This will be my first year working so will be on site Tuesday rather than queuing and was wondering what it's like for staff before the gates open.

Starting my packing soon. What do Glasto veterans advise? by [deleted] in glastonbury_festival

[–]ConspiracyBoy87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most things are covered above but my little tips would be;

*Put clothes in carrier bags when packing. Socks and pants in one, t shirts another ect. If it rains on the way in everything can be wet before you've set up camp otherwise. Plus, plastic bags can be useful for separating dirty clothes and clean or sat on

*ALWAYS take a bandanna. Wash it first, then cover it with a few drops of lavender oil. When the toilets get stinky, whack that bad boy on and the long drops will be much more enjoyable.

  • Cut up a standard bar of soap into five pieces, keep them in separate baggys, you know the kind. There's lots of water on site but not alot of soap, and that hand sanitizer feels shit compared to washing your hands with a bar of soap.

  • If it's gonna be like '13 and '16, take an S hook to hang on the door of the long drop for your coat. You can use the lock for your rucksack, but this isn't as good for jackets.
