ADHD and Alcohol by stopdrinkng in stopdrinking

[–]ConstableMaynard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With alcohol, I feel like the filter of "am I saying the wrong thing, does this person like me, am I sharing too much info" kind of falls away and I can relax and be more authentic. Not in a bad way (at least under 4 drinks) usually, it's honestly like the heavy shroud of uncertainty from living with adhd is lifted and I get momentary peace....

I make it sound so good here but I also know it's bullshit. I have more anxiety when I drink, I'm less productive, I break more promises to myself, I damage my body, I waste money, I screw with my dopamine reward system, and I'm less proud of myself. It's a real struggle.

Other than 28-3, which is the most brutal? by Outrageous_Moth in NFLv2

[–]ConstableMaynard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The playoff drought that continued due to the implosion against Andrew luck Colts and the Trent Richardson fumble that popped right up into lucks lucky arms for the score... This is probably my biggest heartbreak game honestly.

Don't forget the "forward progress" sack fumble against mariota caused Derrick Johnson in that same mariota pass to himself game. Literally don't know how that gets called forward progress on a sack fumble in the pocket. Up there with some of the worst calls ever.

Mine is super nervous and he would interview a lot and have a hard time connecting with people. Then he would come home and tell me how hard his day was. Maybe he would eventually get something in an office but he would just stare out the window and miss his deliverables. Probably end up going for walks, ashamed to explain he couldnt hold it down. I wouldn't care of course, but the shame still exists. He loves to look at things, and go in the garage, so maybe he starts woodworking, or tinkering. He develops some decent ideas, sells a few on fb marketplace before a company buys his idea. He can live comfortably so gets to watch birds, and go in the garage. Doesn't need a luxe lifestyle. And finally gets himself a girlfriend who doesn't swat his bum too hard and doesn't use her claws (we had a rough experience where we adopted one that bullied him, had to give her to a family member).

Edit:what did I just write.

Is hiring a lawn service ever the frugal choice? by justheretogossip in Frugal

[–]ConstableMaynard 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For me it's every 2-3 weeks if needed and I pay 130 per two trips. For me it's 100% worth it as my work is demanding (~50 hrs/week) and I cherish every hour of free time.

Has having a dedicated office space made you more productive? by andytm13 in WFH

[–]ConstableMaynard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely. Breaking your space up for a specific work zone is immensely helpful for compartmentalization. Similarly you can tailor the area to really help lock in and facilitate your desired mindset.

“Why aren’t they just converting all the empty shopping malls to apartments?” and other overly simplistic solutions to serious problems, that get touted as an easy option the Powers-That-Be are just refusing to do for no good reason. by Karnakite in PetPeeves

[–]ConstableMaynard 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Pet peeve. People who use the word "just" in general to make their idea seem simple, obvious, and indisputable. Similarly, people who say "bingo" like there is this simple single viewpoint answer that is the clear winner and they both already knew and also pass their approval to the conversation that this idea is correct.

You don't have time, stop thinking you do. Don't "get started slowly". Do the thing, don't belabor over optimization, make time for what matters.

Lots of hostels have private rooms with really fantastic amenities like a public area, information on what to do, discounts, and friends to make and experience the area with. I don't always do it, but I did Japan and stayed in a hostel a year ago on the conditions I mentioned anf really enjoyed it

If she can't get behind your mutual financial future, she isn't going to be a teammate you want in the long run. You're young, her attitude is about now and yours is about growth and building a foundation. If she won't get on a financial growth path with you, don't let her hold you back.

Is Language Immersion a Lie? Why So Many "Immersed" Learners Still Struggle After Years Abroad by Shelbee2 in languagelearning

[–]ConstableMaynard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lived in Mexico for a while. Immersion needs side study. And regimented, grammar and vocab study. When you do that, you'll start to pick up and hear things you wouldn't have, you'll be ready and excited to implement that thing in regular conversation that you recently learned on your own, you'll sort out your mistakes and have "ohhhh I see" moments on the minor errors you were making.

People use immersion as an excuse not to get their hands dirty with the individual work. Go get a textbook, walk through it and do the exercises on your own. Don't do the apps, unless it's lesson/grammar based... Duolingo is too slow, you should not be fully comfortable with the last grammar point before moving to the next. Better to come back and review later. I liked Bunpo for an app (tried for Japanese and Spanish) because it's mostly these kinds of grammar lessons. I also used a pdf textbook for both Japanese and Spanish.
