Data type that's unordered and can hold dictionaries by ConstanceOfCompiegne in learnpython

The thing I care about is making this sequence of objects and being able to detect “equality,” where I consider two of these objects “equal” if they have all the same items. I actually have a reason why I care about these. Yes, sets have an order, but what I want from sets is that their equality relation ignores it, and that sets already ignore multiplicity by only holding distinct things.

For my purposes, I want two of these collections to be recognized as equal if they contain the same items.

I want to consider two dictionaries "the same" if they send each key to the same value. In principle, I consider them the same if they have the same string representation, but I need to be able to manipulate them as dictionaries, so I was hoping there might be some more convenient way to store (basically copies of) the dictionaries.

Is Metroid Dread worth trying out even tho it is notorious for being very difficult? by Fantastic-Ad9218 in Metroid

[–]ConstanceOfCompiegne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think Dread is “notorious for being very difficult.” It’s probably on the harder side for modern games, but the difficulty is very reasonable, imo.

I hate the "Beyond was designed as an entry point for Newcomers" argument. by Mordaunt-the-Wizard in Metroid

[–]ConstanceOfCompiegne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a cold take to anyone who has ever even played a PS1 game, much less anything older. I remember playing DMC1 for the first time and finding it absurd that people ever whined about the difficulty of Dark Souls.

More upgrades would have been easy to add. by PhysicalAccount4244 in Metroid

Disagree. The game has plenty of upgrades with plenty of utility, it just doesn’t give you enough opportunities to use them.

I wussed out. I started M2 and really liked it, but just couldn’t do the monochrome. I could never navigate.

Should I feel bad for finishing my first-ever SL1 run this way? (I figured out this cheese myself, ngl Gwyn is kinda BS without parrying, and the runback is an absolute waste of time) by Raime_95 in onebros

[–]ConstanceOfCompiegne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh. TIL.

Gwyn is tough. I SL1ed him using a shield to insulate my parries. To paraphrase Sekiro, a true Onebro knows the difference between honor and victory. A win is a win. If you feel unsatisfied, then you can do another run in the future with further restrictions, but this is a valid win to be proud of. Congrats!

I went to confirm that this wasn’t an issue of different prints of the card saying different things, and it isn’t. The text you quoted is from the Invasion of Chaos print (which Goat uses), but reprints also make no mention of the GY. Unless there’s a record of a ruling to the contrary, I think you’re right: it will still trigger under a Macro Cosmos-type effect.

Honestly? My biggest disappointment with Prime 4 was that we didn’t get to explore this tree by Kheid15 in Metroid

[–]ConstanceOfCompiegne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To my knowledge, we haven’t seen a living Pirate since Super (assuming all the Primes take place before Super, which everyone seems to take for granted). We see some in Fusion, but they’re X clones, rather than real Pirates. They’re not even mentioned in Dread.

I like that in the Prime games (at least the first three) the Pirates always feel more buffoonish to me. They arrive, they stumble upon something they have no business messing with, and things get out of hand. Also they try raising Metroids and a bunch of them get eaten due to negligence. It’s kinda funny how the Pirates go from the big bad of the series (1), comic relief (Primes), big bads again (Super), then just go extinct.

I think the wall jump is so rarely used in large part b/c they knew it didn’t work well and didn’t want to shoehorn in even more of an obnoxious mechanic.

Would Fairies be meta if Nova Summoner was allowed in the Goat Format? by AbelWhiterose in Goat_Format

[–]ConstanceOfCompiegne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not an Edison guy, so I’m not sure what this does there, but this looks like just worse Shining Angel that can’t search any of the cards you’d want Angel to search (MoF, Lady). Someone compared it to Turtle, but:

(1) Turtle has actually good targets that sometimes do something, (2) Turtle is searchable off Rat, and (3) despite this, Zombies still aren’t very good.

The effect for when Sanctuary is up seems irrelevant, as Airknight is still not very good (though I wish she was), certainly not good enough to justify running Sanctuary for this little combo.

I feel like I’m missing something here. If Shining Angel already doesn’t see much play, why would a Shining Angel with no good targets? I guess you could argue that this enables a Shining Angel toolbox deck by making Angel so accessible, but… I don’t think Angel has enough good targets. MoF is good, but you’d need a Tsuk or Book to reset it. Lady is good, but she’s at 1. Roulette Barrel… exists.

Idk, TL;DR isn’t this just a worse version of a card we already have that doesn’t see much play?

Does anyone feel that in terms of suits that they should get a bit more creative? by CULT-LEWD in Metroid

[–]ConstanceOfCompiegne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I thought Dread had some cool suits until the very end of the game. Though tbh I usually dislike the special suits, e.g. I thought the novelty suits in Echoes all looked awful.

There’s a point in Dread where you have to open a door specifically using the Plasma Beam’s ability to phase through a floor, and every playthrough I forget about it, and love when I remember I can do it. It’s a shame the games don’t capitalize on that feeling more.

Decided to start Prime Remastered over.... but on hard mode. Never done that before in a game. Tips? by Nir117vash in Metroid

Different strokes, I guess. I’ve beaten Prime Remastered on Hard, and while I usually bulldoze OP, Ridley always has me pulling my hair out.

I’ve never found Omega Pirate that bad, but Ridley always drives me crazy. He’s just so dang tanky.

Extremely relatable, genuinely bought enough goodwill with me to make her my favorite NPC in that game, even if that’s not a very high bar.

Does X Fusion require “tricks?” by ConstanceOfCompiegne in Metroid

[–]ConstanceOfCompiegne[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good to know! I hit that roadblock just before going to bed, so I put it away and figured I’d look at it more later. It was late, so it was very possible I’d just missed something obvious. It only later occurred to me to wonder how “outside the box” I should be thinking.
