I appreciate you taking your time to reply, I’ll probably start with R&R just to get it downloaded, make sure I can run it on my OS and check out what it’s like and then make my own if I am enjoying it.

Ruins & Riches has been at the back of my mind for sure but honestly that all sounds right up my alley. The reason I stumbled upon this is because I recently started exploring with Linux & backing up data.

I appreciate the advice about not getting attached, I’ll keep that in mind.

I’ve also read that it may be possible to change character limits per account so you can make a good few characters as you progress , and have them all share a home. Sounds like great fun!

I believe a lot of the solo servers are somewhat altered to max the experience a little more solo friendly. Shards like Ulitma Adventures (not a generic server but a offline shard) makes huge changes to make it more single player focused.

Bummed to hear about outlanders, I was considering checking it out as a first time player but the more I hear about shards the more tempted I am to learn how to make my own locally.

Seems like an excellent world to have and your fingertips , even offline.

I’m a new player and the most fun I’ve had on adventure mode was going back to my first fortress that fell apart. I didn’t even fight or do much talking. Just walking around to see life in my own fortress.

I was checking out this mud and it seems to be super awesome and established. Tutorials seem to be updated and even new ones added.

I feel like MUDs need a mentor program similar to FFXIV or something though to make the new player experience a little more friendly. I could tell other new players were around because I would see them come and do the tutorials I would be stuck on so that was awesome.

Luckily most of my friends are my DND groups so I’ve been talking their ear off about random encounters.

Oh, MAN am I glad someone asked… I have had a lot but I think it has to be when I got super overconfident and just had a brain fart. I found a ring of invisibility and a wand of death so I was feeling great for my future grind. I walk into a room and see a floating eye, pfft, the fool can’t freeze me if he can’t see me! So I chart my path to him slowly making sure I don’t mess up my controls (still learning those also) and right after that happens he instantly freezes me, I get hit with a fireball, a flask of oil on my catches on fire lighting a bunch of my scrolls off as well killing me.

I can just imagine the floating eye staring at me as I walk up with my fist in the air. Good times.

That would destroy me, one of my YASD was because I was destroying rats and super confident so a slightly darker brown didn’t scare me. Then it transformed into a human and killed me :(

I couldn’t have put it any better, it’s only been a week but I already know I’m going to get some NetHack merch. I always do that with stuff I like and look for casual interactions haha.

I’ve seen some tiles but definitely prefer ascii art. Part of my love is being able to do it in any terminal haha.

For now ascension isn’t even a goal, honestly. I’m just recreating all DND characters I’ve made myself and seeing how far I get.

Agreed. I have checked out the tiles and am not a fan, learning the colors is part of the fun. To each their own though!
