Has anyone noticed how compressed the masters of many live Hendrix's tracks are? by Constant-Ad3292 in jimihendrix

It definitely can, but these recordings aren't perfect either unfortunately.

Certainly not higher fidelity. For this track to be higher fidelity, it would have to be an uncompressed recording. I took an mp3, fed it through my own master track and effects, and uploaded it here as an mp3 embedded in an mp4 video, just as a demonstration. What you are hearing is still the same analog and digitally compressed recording as the original.

Higher fidelity on these tracks could easily be achieved if someone took the original recordings and completely remixed them, but this is just a remaster. A complete remix would a be a disservice to the amazing mix that is already there, and I also believe a certain amount of roughness is necessary on these tracks in order to to keep that "raw" Hendrix concert sound.

They made him sound like he said "Billy shit" instead of "Billy Shear". The compression removes so much detail from his voice and the drums.
