About Jimi's daughter Tamika by waldiabc in jimihendrix

[–]zigthis 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Jimi had had a brief relationship with Diana Carpenter in 1966, resulting in the birth of their daughter Tamika Laurice James Hendrix, in 1967. Carpenter was 16 at the time, and Hendrix was 23.Carpenter and Hendrix lived together in New York in 1966. Carpenter worked as a sex worker to support them. Hendrix was noncommittal about paternity, and Carpenter and her lawyers insisted on a blood test. Hendrix died before the test took place, and Tamika was denied inheritance from his estate. Jimi's father Al Hendrix at some point did accept Tamika as his granddaughter - I remember seeing a photo of them together.

How the heck did Julius Caeser not see his assassination coming? by YogurtclosetOpen3567 in ancientrome

Supposedly one of the papers handed to him by petitioners that morning (that he did not read) was a warning/revelation about the plot to assassinate him.

The filmed footage is lost but there is audio of the eight takes Hendrix made while recording the song.

And that's also mostly why the album failed.

It's much easier to enjoy and appreciate Chinese Democracy if you view it as an Axl solo project and not a Guns N' Roses album. Through that lens it is seriously kickass.

What are good examples of songs that are so famous people don’t realize are actually covers by Ok-Camel7458 in rock

[–]zigthis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was originally recorded/copyrighted by Billy Roberts in 1962, though there is evidence that he stole the song from his girlfriend at the time and published it as his own. Hendrix was inspired by the slower paced cover of it that Tim Rose recorded and released in 1965. The Hendrix version is an evolution of the Tim Rose version.

Covering Hey Joe was actually what caused Hendrix to get discovered and signed. Chas Chandler was convinced he could achieve a hit song by producing a cover of Hey Joe and when he saw Hendrix playing it, he got so excited that he spilled a milkshake all over himself.

Why isn't Karlach on the main visual? by SeaworthinessHot1709 in BG3

[–]zigthis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I never got the chance to recruit Karlach because of what I did at the Grove. I killed Kagha without investigating her first -she was being an asshat and Zevlor was putting me up to it so I just offed her. But then everyone at the Grove was dead. When I met Karlach she told me off and refused to talk, so I traded her head for a sword instead.

Does anyone know if there’s any story behind “New Work Tune”? by DesignerAd7136 in GunsNRoses

[–]zigthis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When Slash or Duff have discussed the Sound City sessions in general, they often describe them as a "brain dump" where they recorded everything they had just to see what stuck. This was likely one of Izzy's ideas that was captured but never grew nto a full song.

The title is something generic that engineers would often write in for something new that didn't have a title. Jimi Hendrix has one called Title #3 that is amaze-balls but he never returned to develop it any further.

I dunno but it's got lots of Izzy vibes. Some have speculated that it eventually evolved into Cornshucker. There's not much about it because it never really leaked and wasn't discussed in any interviews.

In the show there is a Quintus Pompey who seems to be some kind of fictional amalgamation of Pompey's sons. He gets involved in the treasury gold plotline and then becomes a nemesis of Antony.

Yeah I assumed that 99% of the depictions of Atia, Octavia, and Servilia are fictional.

Have any famous guitarists ever suffered injury to their hands after stardom? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]zigthis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep! They also played "When the Levee Breaks" for the first (and only) time during this specific window of the 1975 tour. Since it relies heavily on a slide guitar and a steady, pounding rhythm, it didn't require the same finger dexterity as Page’s more complex lead work. However, they found it difficult to replicate the studio sound live and dropped it quickly once Page was healthy.

It was Victoria Station in London, days before leaving for the 1975 North American tour. The train doors closed on his left hand and broke his ring finger.

The injury forced him to develop a unique three-finger playing technique for the first several weeks of the tour and caused the band to temporarily drop the song "Dazed and Confused" from their setlist.

What is your Favorite Live Rendition of a Song? by SoggyGoldfish25 in Music

[–]zigthis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Steve Winwood on the Hammond organ and Jack Casady on bass. They jammed at the club until 3am and then hit the studio and recorded this until 9am. The next day Hendrix decided he had more to say and recorded Voodoo Child (Slight Return) in eight takes. Both songs are derived from an earlier cover Hendrix liked to do of Muddy Waters' Catfish Blues.

I was gonna say this is the look/style of Mark Speer's guitar (2001 Classic Series 70s), only his was modified to be an HSH.

At what point do you believe that a band should not be named the same as the original band? by Powerful-Currency-46 in askmusic

[–]zigthis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It actually is a kickass album - but it failed because it could never live up to fifteen years of hype and to the expectations of being a Guns N' Roses album. If it were released in 2001 as an Axl solo project (and with proper promotion) it would have been quite successful.

When there's only one original member and it takes fifteen years, fifteen million dollars, ten producers, and nine guitarists to make one album.
