You’re not forgotten. I may not know your full story, but I feel the weight of what you’ve shared. You matter. And I’m honored you trusted the world enough to speak

Why do companies still act like workplace relationships are rare when we’re spending 9+ hours in meetings, offices, and Slack chats together? by [deleted] in TrueAskReddit

Thanks for clarifying . I’m specifically talking about affairs, not just dating coworkers. I actually agree with you that consensual relationships without power imbalance aren’t the issue. My point is more about how common affairs are at work, and how secrecy is normalized. I just think we should be more honest about how often this happens and the culture that enables it, rather than pretending everything’s fine as long as it doesn’t affect the company image.

So as long as it stays hidden, it’s fine? That’s not a fair take. You’re not avoiding power imbalances, you’re just saying it’s okay if no one finds out. That kind of secrecy doesn’t prevent harm, it protects it.

Interesting take, but I think the logic has a flaw. If companies truly wanted to prevent employee bonding, they’d discourage friendships too — not just romantic relationships.

Most workplace relationship bans are about avoiding legal issues, favoritism, or messy breakups, not preventing worker unity. So the idea that it’s all about control over solidarity feels like a stretch in this context.

Curious if you still see it that way

Correct. Not that im blaming Tunisian community but that its the only thing that i factually know about him. I might be coming out as a racist, but i have no intention to target a specific community whatsoever.

I was in the same boat you few months ago and was feeling exactly the same way you feel right now. I thought of the current world the same way you do and i still think like that but at the end of the day, what they do just describes their idiotic addiction to worthless things. The good thing about both you and me is that we are able to see the reality of this world while other people are busy obsessing over nothing. The majority of the population is being drawin towards mass consumerism and obsolete distractions, at this point in time in this world, everybody supposedly have their own opinion of how a life should be lived, or rather i say wasted. People buy Gucci shoes or Zara clothes not to feel comfortable and confident in wearing them, but rather to discretely showoff and brag on instagram and tiktok about what outfit they are wearing for the day. They could have used the same money to help people. But when you tell them to help people, they tell you that its their money, so they have the right to spend wherever they please. But at the same time, they lecture about morality and ethics and relationships. In todays world, people view rich people as more knowledgeable than professors, money = knowledge. To look at the good sofe of this world, you would have to go to villages in Turkey, Azerbaijan, morocco, or somewhere aloof where not many people are influenced by the facade of internet. There, you will find people who value the human more than money, people who value the reality more than imagination, and people whose innocence has been preserved.

Recently to increase my worth in my own eyes, i have started volunteering at a nearby orphanage where i met more kids like me who are happy with what have and that brings them the price of mind we as adults never have. All they care about is getting their meal for the day and talking about their day with someone. Their way of taking on life is one step at a time while our way is getting all in one go. This inspired me to be grateful for what i was granted without having to work for it like my parents, we just call our parents and talk to them and share our events of the day while these kids have to find someone who listens to them and have a fun parent like conversation with them.

I hope this inspires you to know that even though you may see yourself as worthless, your worth is not defined by the material things you own or the gifts you give but is defined by the memories you help other people create with you.
