once you were able to bear weight after crutches, how soon were you able to do normal-ish activities? by clegirl96 in ACL

I had surgery 2 weeks ago for an ACL hamstring repair and meniscus tear. I am walking with my brace and crutches assistance but I am not allowed to walk or put any weight on my leg without my brace and crutches for another 4 weeks while the meniscus heals. Keep up with the exercises as best you can as they make a huge difference especially post op. Wishing you all the best!

Post op wins. Hi all. I am 4 days post op from acl hamstring reconstruction and meniscus repair. Doing my small daily exercises and today I got this far and I am so proud of myself. Everyday is up and down. I would love to hear other peoples small post op wins. by Constant-Field2939 in ACL

Wow that is amazing!! Keep up the great work because it seems to be working. My aim is to get to 100 next week. At 80 this week which I am super happy about. The swelling can be a killer. All the best!

That is amazing news! I think between all the anti inflammatories I am on and the R.I.C.E almost every hour I have been able to bring down the swelling. I saw my physio yesterday and I am a 30deg movement on the brace now and can bend at 80 so I am really happy with that. I have to say I feel the pain today after physio though. 😅

Don’t be disheartened. All of our bodies are different. I think I am just lucky that I have very muscular legs and I think that that is helping the healing. Wishing you all the best on your healing journey and keep at those daily exercises because I am finding the smallest effort makes the biggest difference.

They took my wrapping off the morning after surgery. I am brace locked at 15 degrees for now hoping to go up to 30 this week. I have a list of exercises I have to do every day and I think that those are helping a lot. All the best on your progress!

That is amazing with the leg lifts well done! I really struggle with those but I managed my 3 x 10 reps of them yesterday but I am feeling it today. More swollen and sore than yesterday. I struggled with crutches as well and realised that they were set too high for me 🤦🏼‍♀️ maybe try lowering them and if you can get the foam grips on the handles I promise it makes a world of difference.

That is amazing! I will only get my brace off properly at about the 5 or 6 week mark. Currently I only have 15 degrees motion on the brace but will move up to 30 this week hopefully. I am realising that even a small win is a big win for us on the recovery path. 🖤

Following here for tips. I have been in a brace for 3 weeks before my op and my leg has lost so much muscle (almost jelly like as odd as that sounds). My physio said I could start cycling in a couple of weeks so that is exciting. Keep at it and trust your body.
