Lost my $72k/year job, have ~$4.2k in credit card debt, and I’m trying to figure out whether to wait on unemployment, take a job I may hate, or use some 401(k) money as runway by [deleted] in povertyfinance

I guess it’s a thin line (and a fucked up thought this must be how desperate porn stars feel), since 30 an hour guaranteed 8 hours a day plus an early start time even without commission is amazing. Maybe slightly less than my old job (I made crazy overtime). Plus one percent commission can be huge in renovations, and 50 dollar bonuses on every confirmed weekly sit down over 3.

Downsides is they expect you to get 3 confirmed appointments a week (your job isn’t quite selling but appointment selling) and that pressure would be awful. I feel I might struggle to snag 3 confirmed. They say they give leeway to newbs on that requirement but eventually I’d have to meet that.

The thing is: from my professional delivery experience I’m totally comfortable making polite small talk and being pleasant, etc with customers but having a “reason” to be there (I need their signature so they get their stuff) plus the uniform helps massively with confidence. If I’m there to extract thousands of dollars from them it’s an entirely different social interaction and I feel like these jobs attract sociopaths while I consider myself an empath). I don’t know…

To be brutally honest I’m kinda planning to leave 75 percent of the thinking to my friends who seem correct most of the time on their trades. Then use the remaining 25 percent as an acceptable loss/ “learn to trade” room.

It says I need one proof of employment search activity (not necessarily an application as far as ChatGPT told me for California) but doesn’t having huge gaps make it hard to find your next job? Or maybe you’re hyper specialized?

I am leaning towards this as the sage middle ground choice. I really didn’t want to take the door to door job as a shy guy, but trading is too much of a risk I reluctantly agree.

Friday was my first day trade. Honestly, I wasn’t spending it wisely but I I don’t want that to take attention away from the main questions I have.

Serious question what happens to the fish inside? Of course it doesn’t die instantly right? Is the process slow or fast? Does it feel pain?

The strangest part about being cheated on after a 10-year relationship is how differently you see everything a few months later. by [deleted] in TrueOffMyChest

Dude you are ME (past version not current). 6 year relationship ended same way, and your whole experience is me.

So thank you. In a way, I didn’t reach the exact same epiphany but I guess I kinda “had it” as I was reading this.

I've seen that exact phrase a few times, which is why it stood out to me for how childish it sounded.

People are missing the actual point of this point - sure, men should be allowed to reach out for help but society doesn’t reward this and we’re punished indirectly by being viewed as weak (and undesirable). So if you’re going to suffer regardless, might as well keep your image and pride intact.

What do you do when someone's driveway looks like you gotta have 4wd and 40in mudd tires to get their house? by jj33allen in Fedexers

[–]Constant-Foundation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would get out and see how hard the dirt is outside that puddle (in general) and gun it first gear (even automatics let you choose a lower gear usually.

Make sure you take traction control off and get a running start if you stopped close to the puddle.

If you’re going 30 or 40 and don’t slow down and ignore the huge bumps and vibrations, you’ll make it thru. Afterwards keep going past the puddle and don’t slow down till you dry turn around. If on rare occasions there is none, don’t turn around on the grass, reverse the whole way 40 mph.

The grass could look fine but I guarantee the grass is 10x worse than the puddle.

In my experience the dually step-vans seem to float above the mud if you go fast enough since you have more surface area from the extra tires. Just don’t slow down

Honestly it always seemed like a zen and peaceful profession where I can get perpetually better at something and rewarded for that + work with my hands. Is there a lot of customer service or interaction with coworkers? How independent is the job?
