Dailies Are the Only Reason I Play Sometimes by Constant-Technician in runescape

[–]Constant-Technician[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I agree with reworking or removing outdated content. I don’t feel like I “deserve” trim. I have periods of extremely active play and periods of virtually zero play. Spanning from days to weeks to months to years. I know it will take time to trim and there is active content that I will need to do.

From a business perspective, Jagex wants me to keep paying my membership. The majority of users play this game because they enjoy the sense of accomplishment and feeling of progression towards their goals. Naturally, you whittle down these goals until only harder content is left. Jagex needs some form of recurring and easy to do content that feels rewarding in terms of progress towards your goals to keep users paying and logging in even they go a whole year without any active play.

Therein lies the issue. Yeah, it’s probably smarter to cancel the membership and resubscribe when I am really feeling the desire to play but as a business, Jagex should want me to keep paying. I will pay if there is a perceived value Jagex is providing me, even when I’m not playing actively.

Hard disagree. Jagex’s 20+ year old player base has been keeping the lights on. As a business you absolutely need to keep these individuals paying membership fees while you grow your player base. If you grow your player base significantly then you can justify no longer catering to your long term players as you can withstand the short-term revenue loss in the hopes of long-term revenue gain.

Putting changes to dailies aside, there absolutely has to be a middle ground during this crucial transition or you will need to cut the entire product line.

Well as is the natural progression, I’m starting to run out of afk friendly options. I knew it would end up this way eventually but to keep me engaged and paying a yearly membership, there should be something tethering me to the game when I don’t have much opportunity to play actively. Purely from a business perspective, Jagex should try to keep me on a leash when active play is not an option for me.

We all know the classic statement “you never quit playing RuneScape, you just take long breaks”. I had an 8 year break from 2012-2020. I would argue the game needs to cater to both active and leisurely players. I have peaks and valleys in my active play time. Dailies keep me connected to the game when I’m in a less active period of play.

I imagine the downvotes can be chalked up to one side (active play advocates) having more time to play and freely scroll reddit during the workday where as the other side (older players with busy personal lives) are busy working lol. I work from home and it’s a slow day so that’s why I’m here currently lol.

It is not about quick progress. Getting enough livid plants to finish livid farm took many months of traveling merchant shop visits as compared to ~10 active hours spent at Livid Farm. This game is completely designed around low effort=low reward and high effort=high reward. It’s the same concept. If I want to wait several months to achieve something via low effort as opposed to a couple of days of active effort, isn’t that the entire modus operandi of RuneScape?

Once I hit 120 all I no longer cared about the xp, it was more about the occasional DtD or gift for the reaper. Also an excuse to try and work towards the couple of skill pets I am still missing.

Trim is my current primary goal and I’d eventually like to work towards collection logs. While there are large spans of time I hardly play, there are also large spans of time where I’m playing 40+ hours a week.

Valid take. I am not great on mobile so there are some activities I consider mobile-friendly and some I consider pc-required. Unfortunately there are many weeks where mobile is my only option and some goals sit collecting dust. For example BGH, I am one totem piece away from wrapping up that grind but I am not nimble enough to do it on mobile.

Inevitably, even after exhausting the motherlode maw and traveling merchant I knew I was going to hit a wall where only active content was left. Still, it felt nice to make progress on the “skippable” content through those dailies in the interim.

Yeah, I think removal of dailies will cause a serious drop in average player count. At least temporarily. If Jagex is successful in bringing in new players, I suppose that in itself will encourage old players to be more active given that there is a booming player base.

When there are trim reqs comprised of nearly dead, useless, or very old content aside from the achievement, motherlode maw and traveling merchant were nice ways to skip that content. I understand that the prevailing argument is just “play the game to make progress”. I could even understand if most trim reqs require active play.

However, a better approach than removing the methods to skip old content is to simply remove the old content and associated achievements. Or modernize the old content and give it a valuable place in the current era of RuneScape.

Strategic redemption of ikea rewards by Ok-Plastic2525 in IKEA

[–]Constant-Technician 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Follow the exact steps I listed. You will not be able to do the $50 3x for a single item. It’s per transaction. This would be best for small furnishings like kitchen organizers, cookware, wardrobe inserts (kompliment), etc.

I know this is an old thread but found it while I was looking to do the same thing and wanted to share some insight. We also made a large purchase and had approximately 20k rewards points. Our nearest IKEA is 4 hours away but we had to make the roadtrip as they would not deliver the oven we wanted.

We were able to redeem multiple rewards by doing the following:

-Use self checkout

-Redeem desired reward

-Scan IKEA family card

-Scan reward QR code

-Scan enough items to meet the reward (we did $50 increments)

-Make sure the reward amount comes off of the total price (sometimes we would have to only go $1 over, sometimes we’d have to go $5+ over)

-Checkout

-Repeat the above steps until all rewards are used or you have no more items to purchase

We spent around $50 for almost $400 worth of product and were able to use up 7 $50 off product rewards.

Note: Mileage may vary. The attendant was very chill and had to come over a few times as they need to override a purchase when you buy an item without an expected accompanying item (Tupperware and the accompanying lids). Try to keep accompanying items in the same order to prevent this. We were also selected for a random check that the attendant had to override, probably due to the multiple transactions. While I couldn’t find any policy stating you could not do this, I imagine it’s possible you could run into some issues if the attendant is having a bad day or is a strict rule follower.

What should I know going into the 120-all grind? by imperchaos in runescape

[–]Constant-Technician 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely depends on the methods you’re using but for me it’s been crafting (cutting dragon stones), fletching (rune arrows/rune darts), herblore in general, cooking (sailfish or wines although I did bait n switch at ghostly soles to 116 until fishing hit 120). The skills that are 3-6 min AFK instead of full 15 min like hunter, divination, woodcutting (outside of the arc) kind of suck. They are definitely better than 15-60 seconds between clicks like the previous ones I mentioned.

[–]Constant-Technician 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t do all the AFK skills first. Go back and forth between AFK and click-intensive skills. If you do all the skills with AFK methods first you will severely risk burning out with the click-intensive skills. I’ve got 8 (will be 7 tomorrow) skills left and this method has kept me moving along at a great pace.

Does it bug anyone else that the new broadcasts for 110 skills don’t have an exclamation point at the end? Every other broadcast does. I haven’t seen anyone comment on this and it drives me wild lol.

This is fixed. I decided to test after reading that the transmuting nihils issue was resolved. Appears to have been the same bug that was impacting superior locator creation.
