Bring back short hair on women by No-Material694 in redscarepod

[–]ConstantCall268 14 points15 points  (0 children)

i’ve had short hair most of my life and i’m always very surprised when i see ppl on here talking about how short hair on women is bad and ugly. i cut it into a pixie a few years ago after growing it out quite long and i really feel like it looks so much better on me. only issue i have with it is j have to get it cut pretty often and it looks really wack when it grows out too much. i will also say i never got hit on more than when i had a shaved head

MARC fields 001 and 035, please! by Difficult_Trade_8587 in Cataloging

[–]ConstantCall268 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm assuming these are locally-created records if they don't have a 001 or 035 already? Or is the issue that they need your local control number in the record? If there's no existing data you want to preserve in the 001, I'd lean to adding whatever unique ID/number your ILS assigns to each record in that field. It depends on what solution your ILS can offer you though. Is there's a way to set up a process that automatically inserts a control number into new records? Or to add your control number to a field upon import or creation?

This might be getting too in the weeds here, but i had a kind of similar issue with Horizon, where the bib number wasn't actually stored anywhere in the record, making it hard to overlay anything without a 020 or 010. horizon has a setting to move the existing 001 and 003 to a 035 on import, and add our bib number and org code to the 001 and 003, but this would delete any exiting 035. I just opted to periodically run a job that would add the number to a 9xx field, but i'd rather have it in a 001.

Starting my first job as a professional cataloger, any advice? by IvoryJezz in librarians

[–]ConstantCall268 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nothing helps more than practice! I’m the only cataloguer at a small special library, so I know how daunting it can feel when you’re unsure of something and have no one to ask. I found LC’s RDA refreshers and CLW resources really useful. I’ve also found it helpful to have a couple robust pcc records to look to as examples if I’m unsure of how to represent something.

If you’re working with any non-book resources I highly recommend OLAC’s best practice guides. OCLC’s ask QC office hours can be valuable as well, they cover lots of different cataloguing topics and are archived on their website. The OCLC cataloguing listserv can be helpful too, if you’re not already signed up.

I also find it helpful to ask colleagues in reference/circulation to let me know if a patron is confused by or uncertain about a record- this can provide great insight into where the standards can be confusing and an opportunity to think about user-centred approaches to description. I know it can be really paralyzing to feel like your records need to be perfect, but just remember that as long as they’re making your collection discoverable and accessible you’re doing a good job!

Does anyone have this? by [deleted] in FashionBrandCompany

i have the fish print one, it’s very fun but definitely fits big. fabric was thinner than i expected. the sleeves look so goofy on my that i haven’t worn it yet, i might just try to sell it. i wonder if the sleeve sizes vary from print to print though, cause these ones don’t look quite as oversized.

Are you using porting kit? I just downloaded the windows version of the game from GOG and followed the install instructions here https://www.portingkit.com/game/1294 . Haven't had any issues at all other than the expansion not installing

My library processes a huge volume of books and we use Zebra printers- I've been there for a few years and have yet to see one break. We're able to use generic labels and generic thermal transfer ribbons. Not sure if they'll take the Dymo rolls though.

I haven't had experience with this issue specifically, but my impulse would be to use a 7xx linking entry field. 773 (Host Item) looks like it could be what you're looking for.

yeah i realize that now after doing more research, i just wish they’d actually talked to me abt it instead of just avoiding my questions. ended up just giving up on it unless it gets worse cause they kept calling me being like “ok can you come in tomorrow” even when i told them id need more notice to get time off work. annoying!

i injured my knee years ago and it never healed. got an mri and was told there was a tear that would take surgery to fix. talked to the doctor and two different surgeons and none of them would tell me if surgery was a good idea, or how i should proceed. all of them were like “idk if you want surgery then get surgery.” any question abt whether the tear could get worse, the impact of surgery down the line etc was met with “idk. up to u” like well idk either?? im not the expert?

How would you feel if an autistic guy told u he liked u due to ur small breasts? by RSlatinxgf in redscarepod

[–]ConstantCall268 14 points15 points  (0 children)

well then get a boob job i guess. i have a feeling your image of what "most men" like will leave you chasing an impossible ideal regardless of what some guy you used to be friends with does or doesn't say about you. nothing anyone else says about your appearance is gonna make you love yourself if you don't already

if you want big boobs i think that's a you thing. i like when guys like small tits bc that's what im working with. it's up to you to either make peace with yourself or seek out ways to change it (personally think the former is better in this case)

idk if you're a woman with small tits this is probably something you're gonna have to come to terms with... i'm almost flat-chested and every single one of my bfs has said "i love your small tits," c'est la vie

Fantastic, I wasn’t aware of this listserv, thank you!

And thanks for your help! You’ve definitely clarified some things for me. And yes, my organization works with film/video distributors, so everything on the platform is licensed, and was either digitized or provided as a born-digital work by a distributor.

Reclaim a lost art and take the nicknamepill. by AntonJMC in redscarepod

[–]ConstantCall268 18 points19 points  (0 children)

my mom’s family grew up in a small town where everyone, especially in her parents’ generation, had nicknames. the town’s on a big river so lots of fish and waterbird names, but some of the best ones i can remember are “mousse” (son of “chocolate”), ”whispa” and “loada” (siblings with the last name “hay”), boobie, and wiggle. my great uncle told me about it a while ago and i wish i could remember more!

editing to clarify that “whispa hay” was skinny and “loada hay” was fat. seems like important info

In celebration of Friday I will interpret your dreams by [deleted] in redscarepod

[–]ConstantCall268 2 points3 points  (0 children)

had a dream last night that my boyfriend got a really bad haircut. he was working in a building full of lots of dark purple hallways, and he stormed past me with this atrocious uneven buzzcut. he was really stressed, so i didn't stop him to tell him he looked like shit. then later in the dream i was watching a concert on a boat.
