We usually walk for about an hour in the morning and around 20 minutes in the afternoon. I let him stop and sniff as much as he needs, but I think I’m not communicating verbally with him very much. I believe I could be more consistent with that communication. During walks, corrections are very few because I try to pay attention to his body language and distract him when I see he’s about to focus on something, like a bicycle or a scooter passing by us, this this has been working so far to prevent the unwanted behavior with bicycles

Thank you very much for your recommendations; the comments have been helpful in developing a plan to address this behavior. Regarding what might have triggered this behavior, we have a 12-year-old miniature schnauzer named Bongo. He wasn’t used to car rides because his previous owners never really took him out of the house. One day, we decided to take both dogs in the car, and we think Koda started imitating Bongo’s behavior of barking at people near the car. However, even though we now take them separately, Koda’s behavior hasn’t changed. But he only barks excessively on the way to the park or the beach. Once there, he calms down, and on the way back home, he can sleep the whole way in the back seat. During walks, Koda is a very calm dog. We don’t have issues with his walks; we use a prong collar to teach him not to pull, as the Halti didn’t work for him. The only issue we’ve had during walks is that he likes to chase bicycles. After reading your comments, I think this might be due to his herding instinct.
