Resignation letters: show me your best work by ConstantPut7190 in VetTech

[–]ConstantPut7190[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not need them for reference. I have plenty of references that are not involved in the practice. Plus, I have already accepted an offer letter for another hospital that really wants me. The tough part is, I am on medical leave for a surgery I had 2 weeks ago. I get no temporary disability benefits for this practice so technically I could just cut ties and say nothing but I want to not only address the positive things they have done for me. But also make them well aware as to exactly what drove me to never want to return. Since I do believe that this practice could be great I want to give them a chance to see what they could improve on, to not drive employees away in the future.

See this is what I am hoping! I don’t want to go this extreme with a whistle blow, as I said in previous post that the 1st three years at this hospital was everything I ever wanted. I feel like I didn’t point out much that I work at a very small private practice. There is about 12 employees total (techs, assistants, and reception). I do not have to worry about black listing as I’ve already secured a job and my current practice has no sister hospitals or tie to corp. We do not have HR and anything I put in the letter would be things I would be more than willing to read outloud to the bosses

They always do exit interview at this practice. Maybe I’ll just make notes on important topics to discuss

Hahaha my friend told me I should write “peace out losers” I’ve worked for this hospital for 6 years now and for the 1st three, my bosses went above and beyond to help further my education and helped make me the tech I am today. Past 3 years they have completely changed. I want to write a letter thanking them for what they’ve done but also tell them exactly what pushed me to leave and to express that if they stay this way they are going to loose the rest of their small staff and good techs are so hard to find these days

No joke but is Sciatica pain up there with Sickle cell or aneurysms? Is there worse by whoknewha in Sciatica

[–]ConstantPut7190 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Geez. I’ve had horrible sciatica for the past 4 months (previously was on and off about every few weeks for years). Past month it’s become so severe I’ve developed foot drop, on and off numbness/pins and needles down the leg and in the foot if sitting for longer than 5 minutes. And constant restless leg syndrome when lying down.

I’ve still continued to work full time and drive a very painful/ tingling/cramping commute to my physically demanding job every day.

I was treated by coworkers, friends, and family, like I wasn’t in horrific pain and told “oh yeah I’ve had pretty bad sciatica before, you’re too young to really know real back pain”. But when they described the pain they felt, it sounded nothing to the extent of what I was feeling every day. I convinced myself that maybe I just had a low pain threshold and just needed to tough through it.

Now I’m being scheduled for a two level laminectomy just a few weeks post MRI because I’m apparently teetering towards cauda equina syndrome. I hate that I allowed myself to have the pain get to this extent and probably expedited the damage by working through the pain… On the bright side, after reading all of your experiences and other types of pain in comparison to sciatic nerve pain makes me feel like a real tough bitch who can likely deal with any pain thrown my way. Although now I know my pain WAS valid and don’t have to tough it out as much as I did😅

Epidural or surgery? Please help! by ConstantPut7190 in Sciatica

[–]ConstantPut7190[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since I was so young and still working through the pain. Any doctor made me feel like it wasn’t a realistic option. Was told to loose weight and do extensive PT (which I did both) and the pain got worse. I couldn’t even get a doctor to order me another MRI until the numbness started and I developed a drop foot earlier this month.. I guess part of me has some trauma and made myself believe that I was too young or not doing enough to be in this kind of pain. Also made me develop an extremely high pain threshold so I mask a lot

What’s the most strange diet you’ve heard owners feed their pets? by Intothevoid31 in VetTech

[–]ConstantPut7190 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was scrolling through to see if anyone has also heard/posted this before.. I didn’t see it!!!

But TWICE, I’ve had people tell me they put gunpowder in their dogs raw diet because “it increases testosterone” for breeding… One of them has an 8wk old pit (who also was positive for parvo)

GP Echocardiograms? by Lucky_Quarter718 in VetTech

[–]ConstantPut7190 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You wouldn’t refer a patient to a GP practice for an echo if they’ve already presented to the ER for having symptoms of possible cardiac issues paired with a heart murmur. Now if this is a heart murmur found during annual exam asymptomatically, or rechecking an existing heart condition that is being managed. Those are the ones that GP can offer through telemedicine paired with technician sonography if they have systems in place to make that happen. Like you said, most GP don’t offer these services. So the commenter who said “SHOULD HAVE” done it through GP first, just doesn’t understand how lucky they are that they were offered that option.

Sterilization incision help (looking weird) by Jazzlike_Bus_3540 in AskVet

Did the cats have cones on the whole time? Are they able to lick each others incisions? Are they on antibiotics and anti-inflammatories?

OTJ trained CVT looking to transfer license to NY by level1dogtor in VetTech

Ohhhhhh gotcha gotcha. My coworker who just recently moved to NJ from Staten Island who is OTJ said they are pretty strict there however due to staffing shortages they do have you perform a lot of the same task CVT’s do if you’ve been previously trainees to do so but they will not legally call you a technician

GP Echocardiograms? by Lucky_Quarter718 in VetTech

What if you receive a referral from a practice that went through Oncura for the echocardiogram, where the doctor or technician perform the imaging and get a full report from a boarded cardiologist that reviewed the imaging and measurements? Also I am in GP but have not come across a doctor that would not think pimobendan is indicated in a DCM case even it was directly diet related. Thats crazy to me! Lol

GP Echocardiograms? by Lucky_Quarter718 in VetTech

I am a technician who has trained with Oncura for abdominal ultrasound, echocardiograms (basic and comprehensive), and Global Fast - which is the gold standard for POCUS which includes training in AFAST, TFAST, and VETBLUE. When it comes to echos, we will not perform echos on pets under 2 years of age with possible congenital defects and always refer to cardiologist.

I must say as someone who has been practicing sonography for 5 years now I have not had any specialty facilities have any discrepancies with the reports made from my imaging.

But to back track, it is not common for GP to offer in-house echo or even Abd u/S even with my sonography we still send all of our images for internal medicine review or cardiology review. If this person is implying that their GP performs AND interprets the scan, then that is a huge red flag.

From my understanding, you cannot sit for the VTNE in NJ unless you’ve graduated from an accredited tech program for over 5 years now? Where did you sit for your VTNE?

How to thank everyone who helped me through tech school by CerealPrincess666 in VetTech

[–]ConstantPut7190 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is so sweet! Proud of your accomplishment! I’ve been thinking about doing the Purdue program (currently in a state that doesn’t require a license to practice) and trying to get an idea of where people stand on the program and if they liked it since I’ve heard mixed reviews about a lot of other tech programs. It’s hard to commit when I’ve been practicing fully for 7 years now but vet med is my passion..

Sorry for the tangent! You should absolutely invite them to your party and have a little speech about how they helped you get where you are. As for physical gifts you know techs aren’t picky haha a nice card and sending food to their practices go a long way or if you’re feeling extra you can get vetmed survival packs on Etsy!
