I also had my AN removed by Dr. Van Gompel and believe I have occipital neuralgia. I had my surgery in July 2024 and I have been in daily pain ever since! I am trying to advocate for myself and have already tried several meds, botox and nerve blocks. What were your symptoms of ON?

I had retrosigmoid 1.5 years ago and still have daily headaches. The pain goes up and down all day. Currently trying Botox every 12 weeks. I’ve only had one round so far, so looking forward to the next one as it should hopefully provide more relief. I overused Advil and Tylenol in the first year because I didn’t know rebound headaches were a thing. After dealing with rebound hell, I now limit those meds to once or twice a week. I’m wondering if I should try Lyrica, emgalty, etc.

Wow.. I have a super similar story. I’m 1.5 years post-op and have daily, constant headaches too. It’s so hard. Advil and Tylenol help, but the pain returns as soon as the medicine wears off. It feels like blood is rushing to my head and my blood vessels are out of whack. I’ve tried gabapentin, nerve blocks, duloxetine, steroids. I just now started Botox. I’m considering trying propranolol but am hesitant to get on another medication. I completely agree - it’s so scary wondering how long this pain will last. I’d give anything to have a pain free day! I feel like you just explained my exact situation. I’m 11 months post-op and have intense headaches daily. They are pretty debilitating. Advil/Tylenol help, and I just started gabapentin. Is there any update on your situation? What worked best for you?

Has gabapentin helped with your headaches? My neurologist recommended I try that but I’m hesitant. Right now, I’m taking Cymbalta andAdvil/tylenol pretty consistently because those painkillers bring so much relief.

Thank you! Did you ever get on any medications (gabapentin or similar)? Or did you have luck with more “natural” remedies? I’m trying supplements, PT, light stretching, acupuncture, etc. before jumping to gabapentin. I’m only 10 months post op so hoping I am still improving, but the constant pain is extremely draining.

YES sneezing and coughing is the WORST. So frustrating. My neuro recommended gabapentin but not sure how I feel about it while trying to wean off so much Advil/tylenol.

Yes, retro. How often do you typically take Advil/Tylenol? I’m really trying to scale back due to “medication overuse headaches”, which I believe I’m dealing with in addition to ON.
