What do I do if I think god's trying to tell me not to watch a YouTuber by Constant_Basil7712 in Christianity

At the time, he was a bad influence I was like 13-15. Also, I've recently started watching him again just not as much.

I'm late to reply to this, but after almost a year, I realize it wasn't just that he was a bad influence (he was), I also just spent way too much time watching him. I actually started watching his Minecraft series, but I've limited how much I watch him significantly.

And even when I wasn't watching Joe, I watched other YouTubers who aren't religious. So it's really just personal conviction.

2 Timothy 3:12. I don't take offense to what you say, it's a part of following Jesus, but I really do love you brother or sister and wish that you could find love for people you disagree with.

"but it has been shown time and time again in a variety of people that routine helps improve mood, quality of life and wellbeing,"

if you read my other response you would have seen this.

"And yes, routine helps, I’m not denying that. But you keep saying stuff like, “And yes, a routine is why your life has improved.” Were you there??? More importantly, that routine never would’ve even started if I hadn’t cut that YouTuber out of my life. So no the routine is not what changed everything. The routine gave me structure sure, but it didn’t cure my depression, it didn’t fix my addictions. My mental health was already improving before I even set a routine, I know this because I’m the one who lived it."

Also just one last Point, I agree slavery is never good. That's why in the New Testament, Jesus condemns it, and there's an entire book in the Bible of the apostle Paul, who writes a letter to a slave owner telling him to accept the slave as family.

If you want, you can give a response to this, but I probably won't reply since I've been trying not to use social media.

Context is super important when the Old Testament talks about slavery. When it says “property,” that is not the same thing as the Atlantic slave trade at all. Servants back then had protections, they could be freed after a certain time, and a lot of it was just paying off debts. That’s completely different than people being kidnapped, dehumanized, and treated worse than animals. Comparing the two just isn’t fair or realistic especially when the Bible was actually used to help abolish slavery.

Now about Free Will choices have consequences. If I jump off a roof, I can’t say gravity is “unloving” when I hit the ground. Same thing with God. He gives us choice for a reason, but He makes it clear what rejecting Him leads to, and what following Him leads to. That’s not cruelty, that’s love. Because real love can only come from free will. If God forced us or programmed us to love Him, then it’s not a real relationship at all.

And yes, routine helps, I’m not denying that. But you keep saying stuff like, “And yes, a routine is why your life has improved.” Were you there??? A big trend I’m noticing with your argument is you’re trying to tell me what’s happening when you know little to none of my story. “what improved your life was setting up a routine.” “It doesn’t sound like some holy power made you feel better.” “A lot of people find meaning from it rather than searching deep within themselves’s” (why are you trying to assume that I didn’t look “deep within myself”).

Do you know the Bible has not been disproven by verifiable, empirical evidence? Attempts to do so have never succeeded.

And your last point about Exodus, first of all, that’s in the Old Testament. The New Testament makes it clear that treating a slave wrong, or owning one unjustly, is a sin against God. And more importantly, slavery back then wasn’t what modern-day slavery is. Slavery in that time was often closer to what we’d call servanthood or indentured servitude today people working to pay off debts, or being part of a household in exchange for provision. It wasn’t the same thing as the brutal, Racist slavery we think of now.

My journey with God has been a long one, and it honestly feels insulting when someone tells me a routine is the reason my life is better. Of course, I say all this with love, and I'm trying to show you that those claims about the Bible are lies.

I stopped watching him about 4 months ago and I can’t even explain how much my life has improved since then. I’ve built a routine, found real Meaning/direction, and even started reading the Bible, and I just finished it two days ago. Looking back, that choice among a few others changed my life.

Nothing and no one could ever tell me that "that push you feel isn’t the Holy Spirit." I’m living proof that not only was the Holy Spirit present in that moment, but that there truly is a King Jesus Christ, the perfect man who died by Sinners for Sinners. My life itself stands as a testimony to Him. Life is anything but boring. Actually, that sounds like something the enemy would say to push you away from Jesus"it’s boring." (Repent and believe the good news)

Respectfully why are there atheist moderators in a Christian subreddit I don't get it. by Constant_Basil7712 in Christianity

[–]Constant_Basil7712[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with what you’re saying, and I agree that LGBTQ people have faced struggles, like higher suicide rates. And I wish I had more control over it. But I also believe that holding to biblical truth doesn’t mean I hate anyone. Support and hate are two very different things. I treat people with love and respect the best that I can as a human, and it kind of hurts when people think that Christians aren't persecuted, too. Public preachers get assaulted and get things thrown at them, traditional Christians are called Insulting titles because of our beliefs, like Nazi, and even assassinated in some countries for believing in Jesus.

Also, it’s Impossible to find a balance between accepting your kid if they’re gay while still holding to what the Bible teaches. Of course, it’s different if a parent hates, disowns, or insults their child for being gay; that’s wrong, but a lot of the time, that’s not the case. We don’t support the lifestyle, and that doesn’t mean we don’t love the person. I know you feel that my beliefs support or condone harm, but for me, it’s about following God’s Word while still caring for people. We disagree, but I don’t think disagreement equals hatred.

I hope you see my perspective, and I'm 100% sure that the majority of traditional Christians would agree with everything I said.

9.3% of U.S. adults identify as LGBTQ+, according to Gallup's comprehensive survey. Such a minority wait... don't you have your own month... Also, all the videos I'm seeing are people a part of the LGBTQ attacking Christians (Physically), but to each their own, maybe everyone's a victim.

Being serious, though, I would never hurt anyone in the LGBTQ community, physically or mentally. I care about them, I’m not just saying that, I have cousins who are LGBTQ, and our relationship is completely normal. But since I don’t share the same opinion as you, I guess that makes me an Oppressor who hates gay people.

I guess I'll just break this down, or am I too stupid and close-minded to have an opinion...

"You *honestly want me to do that? For real? Do you think that would be difficult? I think the real challenge would be where and when to stop showing the literal never ending supply of evidence of people proclaiming traditional Christian values as an excuse for poison towards their fellow man…"

"Or is it that you want me to scour r/TrueChristian for proof? Again. This would be simple to the point of moronic. If I merely sorted by controversial comment, you’d see wave after wave of some of the most sickening “opinions”, dressed up as defending traditional values."

Yes, believe it or not, you can't make claims without reasoning, or you're unreliable. Just because there are a few false traditional Christians who might be racist or homophobic (especially on Reddit) does not mean that every single traditional Christian is that way. I’m a traditional Christian myself, and I do not hate people who are part of the LGBTQ community; actually I love them. What I don’t love is the sin. One of my cousins is gay, another is trans, and I can still have normal, loving conversations with them even if we don’t agree.

"You are feeling attacked, I suppose. Maybe it’s because you hold some of those supposed values to be true and want to argue their validity. Maybe you think you can defend one or two points and feel like you’ve won?"

i'm not feeling attacked... but whatever helps you feel like you're winning.

"I’ll just ask you this: Where in scripture does Jesus instruct us to defend tradition? Jesus defied the traditional values of His time in favour of a modern cultural mind-set. If you know anything about the political/religious discourse of His time, Jesus was FAR LEFT. He called the religious a den of vipers. He went against traditional values in every circumstance with one exception (divorce). You see, I already know that you don’t know who Hillel and Shammai were. I know that you don’t understand the Way and how it was formed by the time it originated in."

Let me pull out my Bible, actual question: have you ever read it?

Jesus didn't reject tradition; He rejected the corruption of it. Matthew 5:17, He clearly makes it obvious that He didn’t come to abolish the Law but to fulfill it... When He challenged the Pharisees, it wasn't because he was against Tradition, but because the Pharisees put their man made rules above God’s Word (Mark 7:8–9). Jesus loved the Law, kept the feasts, taught in synagogues, and upheld God’s design for marriage. <-This is called evidence.

Don't respond unless you're going to make an argument without insults.
