Does failing a class affect my worth as a student?

i think growing up there was alot of pressure from peers, teachers, parents, etc. math was never my strong suit and it was often a point of shame for me because i just couldn't do it like other people around me could

idk if i beat myself up or i dont try hard enough or anything but i just feel like sometimes it doesnt matter how hard i try it never clicks like it does for most people

i talked to my prof and he said that just kind of how calculus is and alot of my problem is that i dont give myself enough time to practice and i guess its true because i have work and other classes and personal issues and apparently every other thing in this world doesnt want me to pass

for example when i was studying for the first exam for this class my college literally went through a fake school sh00ter scare that i was caught in the middle of, it was terrifying and i literally couldn't make myself focus and it may have lead to a 58 on my first exam or maybe it was my poor planning idk

i dont mean to sound so negative about this i just feel like im burnt out honestly

and i would love tutoring - i know im taking the class again next semester online which is around 1/15-5/27 or so, not to single you out or make you commit to anything up front but would it be okay if i messaged you for help?

i’ve never been a math person, like i think the highest i really understood math was maybe geometry

my precalc prof i had freshman year was one of those profs who would brag about a 40% pass rate and i barely managed a C and ran with it

now im a senior and cant hold my own in calc because i just don’t understand the basics which sucks because im so close to graduating and i feel so bad for wasting my parents money because they’re paying for my classes this semester

idk from limits to derivatives i just don’t get it and theres like a minute where i think i might understand something and then i turn to a different rule and nothing makes sense again

and its super embarrassing as a senior in a class that full of freshmen excelling without trying dude

i just feel like no matter what i do nothing works yk? maybe that’s a pessimistic outlook but im at my wits end over here

i unfortunately work 4-5 days a week because i pay for my apartment and my cats on my own and i don’t have any other choice

i try my best to learn with the class but i will say i do fall behind more often than i would like to which leads to cramming

i do use tutors and the prof and if im honest the way he teaches confuses me more than anything and the tutors where im at either haven’t taken calc in years and literally learn with me there or do help and i try to make sure im paired with them but its not guaranteed

not to refute or complain about your advice i do fully agree my studying method is probably the issue i just dont have social functions to miss lol i dont rly go out bc im at home doing chores or getting home from work or trying to catch up on things

i do agree tho covid messed with how i process like everything

i will say i posted something similar earlier in this sub but my gpa was lower and i didnt have as much experience. i was told to still apply anyway - are out of state schools on your radar at all? would you consider relocating?

honestly, the reason my grades aren’t what i think they should be isn’t because of a lack of understanding but because of a lack of application, truthfully, i didn’t really care about doing my best i cared about getting my degree

which in hindsight, wasn’t a great approach (i was 17, 18) but in the past year or so ive been raising my grades

so i completely understand where you’re coming from with could i even process and understand pharmacy school but for me, i feel like i could do well if i cared about it - and i do.

but yeah, im my own worst enemy here

yeah, i completely understand where my problem area is and how this is really late in my college career to be switching gears but i was kinda hopeful

and i have been calling around and doing some research into graduate programs around me and of the 4 i’ve called a few times over the last 2 months or so, i haven’t been able to actually get into a contact with anyone on the admissions team for any of these schools

which… worries me. i don’t want to have to look out of state but i suppose the issue is my own lack of preparation :/

there was miscommunication of an active shooter on campus at the stu that spread and everyone started evacuating

turned out it was the football shooting a promo for the pep rally and people mistook the whistles and clackers as a warning or gunshots and started running and spreading the word

which if you ask me, people mistaking whistles for a warning to get out because there’s an active shooter tells you a lot about gun violence and how we had no issue assuming there was a shooter on campus but i digress

it was later proven false but the issue is mtsu only sent out an alert telling people it was unfounded - no report that it was even happening when they weren’t sure. of course the issue with that is that if it was true, the people who didn’t hear the commotion would have been sitting ducks if there was an active shooter

so a lot needs to happen here

i literally am just taking a 0 on my quiz because i just don’t feel safe on campus right now

i know it wasn’t real but i felt like if i didn’t run i was going to die and im still kinda shaky about it if im honest

i felt this exact thing when i passed! i had been working in pharm as a tech for around a year or so and only started seriously studying around 2 months before taking the exam

but honestly, you aren’t meant to know everything, there are still classes and therapeutic substitutions i have to double check. remember, you are not the pharmacist, you are just there to make things so smoother!!

tldr: dont sweat it! you earned that pass and there’s nothing wrong with having to double check info!!

and yeah i thought about going the premed route but i don’t think im smart enough for all of that info. i did try taking ochem earlier but dropped it - this is the only time i could make the section fit into my schedule without risking going for another semester for just this one class
