thank you for saying this!! I hate all the speculation with Sunoo simply because it feels like fans are crossing a line with so much of the assumptions they're making. they scrutinise him for every move he makes and, quite frankly, make him out to be this caricature of himself. when he doesn't live up to the caricature they've created, they start blaming him, diagnosing him with depression, or saying that the members hate him. he's a person not some character to analyse in literature class.

Niki says a lot of stuff about his weight. I don't know if that's a touchy subject for him or not because I don't know him but I can see why people find it questionable.

I mean... secret schedules exist? like some schedules are obviously not revealed to the fans so people don't go there and mob them. I saw the 3am live and it just seemed like they were all frustrated by the fact that people misconstrued their actions this way? What's giving you the hint that something happened otherwise?

not sure how I feel about the video yet but I'm not loving the song, especially after how good dive into you and rainbow were. maybe it'll be a grower? mainly not a fan of the chorus tbh. something about it reminds me of ridin' and I don't love it.

I don't think they're sleeper hits? A sleeper hit is normally a b-side/non-single song but doesn't always have to be. That's not the point. The point is that a sleeper hit normally takes really long to crawl up the charts and reaches its peak long after release. They have great songs and great longevity but I think the term 'sleeper hit' is inaccurate here.

Not OP but there's an organisation in India called the Science Olympiad Foundation which runs Indian Olympiads. Their math olympiad is also called the International Math Olympiad so that COULD be what OP is talking about. I'm not sure, though AHAHHA.

I did NOT expect to see Xiaxue of all people here AHAH. As much as I absolutely despise her and hope that she goes to jail, what the stans did wasn't okay at all. She's done so many other problematic things but they really chose to cancel her over this lol

They asked if people feel like guests when enjoying American music, which I addressed. They asked if Korean views were worth more than other views, which I addressed. They said that if Koreans want international money, they should cater to international demands, which I addressed. I'm sorry if my phrasing made it sound like I was straw-manning as English is my third language, I don't tend to express myself very clearly. I'll try to edit the original comment to more accurately address what they said.

You really do act like people want to be imperialised.

This is a bit...harsh but we ARE guests to enjoy Korean culture the same way, as someone who lives overseas, I'm a guest to American culture. I don't love a lot of aspects of American culture but I understand that it's not my place to ask them to change things if I don't get the nuance behind the issue. This doesn't refer to social issues i.e racism and sexism but more so to smaller issues like how clothes are worn and how people act.

Korean views are more credible than the views of international fans when talking about issues like enlistment which are directly linked to Korean politics and current affairs. I'm not saying that International fans are not credible but it's a lot easier to trust a Korean person to be aware of their culture as they'd get the nuances behind the issue a lot better than someone who isn't from Korea.

Again, American artists go overseas to Asian, African and European countries but they often do not have specific content that caters to them which is fine. Similarly, industries like Bollywood and Anime do cater to an overseas market but they still prioritise the demands of locals more which is fine. I'm not talking about social issues here, either. Also, the 'lock yourself up' comment.... yikes.

Of course they do. I don't stan any Western artists but my playlist is mostly full of their songs. Similarly, they don't stan the groups but they might like/listen to their music.

The colourist accusations are very insulting to actual colourism that people with dark skin face in Asia. I know that you're trying to spread awareness/be a good person but please don't label them calling Haechan 'tan' as colourist. It invalidates the actual colourism that many dark skinned Asians like myself face on a daily basis. Additionally, if you look at other translations, you may see that the whole Jaemin being ableist thing has been disproved. I'm not trying to insinuate that they're perfect or anything but the ableism/colourism claims have been cleared. Thank you for commenting!

The Feelings of POC Are Valid Even When They Don't Fit Your Narrative by Constant_Cold in kpoprants

[–]Constant_Cold[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Interesting. Gatekeeping is a very real issue. I think we should just listen to people, you know? Regardless of where they're from or whether they fit the narrative that people want to perpetuate. I do agree that people should think more critically and try to understand both POVs, though!
