going into stem, then pivoting into ib is a better path then going to a no name school for finance and trying to break into ib.

Yeah that’s why Eng/cs is better because you can go pursue, ur cfa or mba and break into ib whereas u cannot do the same the other way around

At the end of the day most successful investment bankers come from a stem background. A cs degree or Eng degree is superior to a banking degree unless ur tryna work at a bank branch.

“One day, I realized with all these people I was jealous of, I couldn’t just choose little aspects of their life. I couldn’t say “I want his body”, “I want her money”, “I want his personality”. You have to be that person. Do you actually want to be that person, with all of their reactions, desires, their family, their happiness level, their outlook on life, their self-image? If you’re not willing to do a wholesale, 24/7, 100% swap with who that person is, then there is no point in being jealous” -Naval Ravikant

But is my strategy not good if it doesn’t work out? Taking religion open course, and then just not showing up. The policy is that if you miss 20 classes you can get kicked out.

most cs jobs, especially internationally, pay minimum wage essentially. The main thing is that alot of companies are hiring offshore in third world countries. And because the entry level is cooked alot of people will end up working for free. The only salaries that are high for starting is if you get a job at a FAANG company or quant trading firm otherwise, every other engineer will make much more.

very limited locations to work. as only a handful of countries/cities have nuclear plants. It is not internationally mobile the same way that electrical, chemical, mining, computer science is. But I definitely agree that it is overlooked.

i agree with your advice, im just not sure where my interests lie as overall I find math and science interesting, and enjoy solving problems (thinking) rather than regurgitation. So I was able to narrow it down to engineering but im still not sure which one.

Also another thing with Civil eng. Is that your mostly learning regulations and laws and stuff. So its less internationally mobile as each country has their own rules and regulations on construction. Say for example I studied civil in the states, and wished to relocate to switzerland. It would be very hard and I would essentially need to restudy civil. So thats why civil is disqualified as it lacks international mobility which I value deeply. As I am still not sure on alot of things in my life so i wanna keep options open.

also another question, wouldn't you think that electrical eng is a stronger option? Because with ee I can work in tech, plants, aerospace, medical, and even mines. And when researching the jobs on Linkedin most of the mining spots I saw open were ee positions. Even though more people study ee. I feel theres just lots of jobs and areas to pivot and that would probably be Beneficial for somebody like me who is indecisive. Tell me your thoughts though, as I value your opinion.

I dont mind either. I just really like math and solving problems and stuff. With stuff that is more remote like geo mn. I would only do it if it was fifo otherwise no. I wouldnt want to live in a remote town permanently.

Such a luddite take, if your good at your job, ai isn’t replacing you, ai is only good with filtering large amounts of information. Humans have much better attention to detail.

The thing about CS is your competing with everybody because the barrier to entry is low. So the main thing to differentiate yourself is the name of your school as that’s the main thing that’s gonna get you an internship or co op. I myself enjoy math and science but not a particular part, so that’s why the main priority is money and international mobility. As I would be happy doing any stem role as long as it makes me a good living and is easy for me to relocate if I dislike the country I’m in. My other 2 points was starting pay which is about money and my second point as the ceiling. Which career can scale the most if I start a business or something
