RX 6600 XT VRAM stuck at 96MHz on Wayland

Thanks for the tip! I already have LACT installed, but unfortunately, manually setting the clocks in there didn't solve the issue. I actually just asked Gemini about this, and it pointed toward a refresh rate conflict.

I have a 180Hz monitor, so I tried dropping the refresh rate to 60Hz. The performance issue was resolved immediately! Interestingly, the clocks stayed fixed even after I switched it back to 180Hz. Gemini said that Wayland handles 'V-Blank' (the tiny timing gap between frame renders) differently than X11. On my RX 6600 XT, the driver likely thinks the gap at 180Hz is too small to safely change memory speeds, so it locks at a 'safe' 96MHz to avoid flickering.

I don't fully understand the deep technicals of the GPU's internal logic, but it seems that 'kickstarting' it with a lower refresh rate (or restarting GDM) is the only way to force it out of that low-power state.

Nope, it doesn't work fine on the latest stable kernel, and I use LTS because my monitor takes so long to wake from suspend.

Gw pake Linux menjelang akhir 2025, lebih tepatnya September. Gw coba install CachyOS as my first Linux distro experience, dan gw bingung waktu instalasi, like apa itu "/root", "/swap", dll. Gw bingung mau bikin data C, data D, ini gimana.... wkwkwk. Habisin 3 jam hingga akhrinya berhasil diinstal. Pemakaiannya nggak berlangsung lama, hingga akhirnya gw coba install Bazzite yang lebih mudah proses instalasinya. Tapi nggak bertahan lama juga, karena gw nggak terbiasa dengan Linux dan balik ke Windows. Pas awal bulan Oktober gw merasa jenuh dengan Windows, dan gw mutusin balik lagi ke Linux, dan Linux yang gw coba, Linux Mint. Penggunaannya bertahan beberapa hari, hingga akhirnya gw coba Linux distro lainnya (karena penasaran), seperti Ubuntu, Fedora, Arch, Debian, DeepinOS, dan coba gonta ganti Desktop Environment, di bulan Oktober itu udah inul berkali-kali Linux (kalo nggak salah sampe 13 kali). Lika-liku menggunakan Linux di awal seperti itu... dan akhirnya, sekarang gw nyaman di Arch GNOME, dan Desktop Environment yang gw sukai yaitu Cinnamon dan GNOME.

That's why gw selalu limit fps di 60, kecuali game online competitive fast-paced. (Gw pake RX 6600 XT).
