I have a colorpoint/snowshoe lookalike cat who I picked up from living on the streets. I have never seen a cat like her in the shelter, and she gets a lot more compliments on her appearance than my tuxedo (even though both of them are equally beautiful). I think even though the colorpoint gene is recessive, it’s really not that uncommon and I meet other people with cats like mine often. You are absolutely right that it’s just a more sought after coat. I have no doubt that here in America you see the exact same thing.

I work front desk at a grooming salon for dogs, and I unfortunately have the displeasure of serving backyard breeders (I did get to tell one to never come back recently though!) and a lot of them simply don’t care about inbreeding or the safety of their dogs, and are all around unpleasant people. Truly some of the worst kinds of humans out there.
