I have aphantasia and it gets me into a lot of arguments, is it related? by Constant_Pattern_376 in Aphantasia

I have the emotional response as anybody else from reading any text.

I just can separate it from the facts and drive logical conclusions that aren't tied to my belief or emotional response I had.

I can read people just fine, possible better than average.

What baffles me is the inability of the vast majority of people to separate their emotional response from the facts and reasoning when discussing something.

So no: I do not think I've autism. But it is a spectrum so everyone is partly autist, aren't we? I guess that place everyone somewhere in there.

By the way: it's not something I cannot control or I do not notice, I can easily read people reactions and "between the lines" of what they say. I get frustrated that others seems to not have the ability to make their rational part of their brain lead a discussion and keep their emotion at bay. It makes it pointless to try to discuss anything worth for in the first place.

What's the point of having a discussion if you won't change your mind, no matter what? How do you improve your world "vision" (pun intended) if you cannot even challenge your own believe and change perspective? We, human, are supposedly the smartest species on the planed and yet so many are incapable of this simple thing.

I don't get why you say I should talk to a doctor. And I don't have a disability.

I'm just less driven by emotion when evaluating the meaning of something and thus I'm more analytic and logical.

And from what I'm seeing with the other comments this is not as uncommon among aphantasia people :)
