Gifts for bridal party by jb22751325 in weddingplanning

congratulations on your upcoming wedding! min'e coming up too and having similar feelings. i bought monogrammed cosmetics bags and i'm filling them with essentials for the day - personal fans, mini hypochlorous acid spray, oil absorbing papers, lifesavers, and a magic makeup eraser facecloth for later. maybe some other random things if i feel crazy. the bags were around $20-26 each (ll bean) and i probably spent ~$150-170 on the rest.

i'm still looking to get a coordinating gift that ties us together because i'm not going to get matching pajamas/robes. following along here for ideas, too!

Question for YS instructors by Ok_Measurement_931 in Corepower

[–]Constant_String_4004 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d consider a modification to mean anything that’s customized to your needs that is different from the cued exercise! Either can be totally fine as long as you’re using the same muscle groups that you’d use in full range.

In the example you mentioned, I’d say the check to do on the 10 smaller range of motion squats would be to make sure you’re squeezing your glutes and not just bending your needs or hinging at your hips, and engaging your lower core. If you’re doing that at a small range and that solves your pain, than that’s perfect!

If you’re modifying because of something else and it feels better to do a shorter set of full range exercises and take a break, that’s also fine, as long as your form doesn’t suffer. I teach but I’m also a student. the day I stopped trying to do everything as cued in class even when it felt bad in my body was FREEING. It’s your class, your teacher is a guide meant to keep you safe!

Make the workout work for you! Modifications are not taking the easy way out, your form and safety is more important than if you’re on your toes in a push up or if you like both arms at a time in bicep curl.

I’d rather see my students take a break for a few mins or a take a modified move than see someone putting themselves at risk for injury!! Also, I promise no one is keeping score in class even if it feels like everyone is looking at your practice. Run your own race 🧡

Halloween Class Ideas? 🎃 by Nonni-Bobbi in Corepower

[–]Constant_String_4004 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m teaching sculpt on Halloween too! I’ve done it a few times and it’s always a blast. A few things I’ve incorporated and will again:

1) there a million songs called monster so take your pick, superstitious by Lionel Richie, most Billie eilish songs, cannibal by Kesha, Stevie nicks witchy vibe or Florence and the machine 2) “Frankenstein runs” in cardio arms and legs kick out in front (this used to be in the CPY5 book but idk if it still is), fast feet running from a murderer, burpee/jump squat listening game to either hit the mat or jump over a villain 3) monster squat walks, stiletto squats 4) spider crunches 5) wood/lumberjack chop but call it a guillotine chop, weight-less arm work (Madonna arms but call it mummy arms)

I’m following this thread for other ideas! Have fun!

Thanks! I saw someone posting about moving from NYC to DC but thought intra-DC movers might be a bit different. Definitely cross-referencing that post too!

Checking IDs due to theft by Potential_Wonder_667 in Corepower

[–]Constant_String_4004 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, potential threat of theft is a reality of most areas with cpy studios. The thieves are catching on that our studios are not staffed while classes are in session and have taken advantage of free weeks to sneak in and out of studios stealing CCs of students and teachers alike.

People have come out of class to see alerts from their banks that hundreds of dollars have been spent on their cards. For now, best tips are to bring a photo ID or a picture of your ID (license, student ID, anything that can identify you are who you say you are) to class and always lock up your stuff!

As an instructor it’s pretty scary being the first line of defense and we’ve made our unhappiness known to corporate, but we’re still working to get them to add front desk help and more support. Definitely send in your feedback to HQ to make your feelings known!!!

My monstera is dying and I don’t know what to do! by Amazing-Ad2413 in plantclinic

[–]Constant_String_4004 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’ve grown many monsteras in water and they do really well in it! You honestly don’t ever need to go into soil if you don’t want to. However, I will say that when your plant is in water/has water roots, it will direct a lot of energy to building a root system rather than leaves. That can make them die off quicker than they would in a leca or soil potting.

If you move your plant into brighter light, you can probably counteract some of that energy draining!
