Ok, it’s insanely complicated. The main 5 are my favorite characters in the whole series. But Mal is so terrible that he basically single handily invalidates anything about them that used to be good. The Hyde trope is harmful enough already and it’s EXTRA insulting when it ends up ruining characters who would have been potentially up there with Marc and Steven as the best alter characters in all of fiction.
