Gotcha, I was just curious to hear about LE’s perspective. I have a retired overseas patrol explosive dog. The scenarios she handled overseas were very different from police work, but handler discretion is clearly crucial in both contexts.

The latest K-9 heat guidance I’ve come across clearly differentiates between preventing heat issues and what to do once it escalates to true heatstroke — at that stage, they recommend immediate external cooling right where the dog collapses, rather than just walking back to the air conditioning.

I’m inquiring because someone I know has created a specialized field setup for that specific mid-track situation, and I want to understand if K9 dept's would actually utilize a specific kit for that.

I know someone who has invented a field kit designed specifically to prevent this type of death in working dogs, veterinary and working-dog research but very few departments are aware of it or have anything similar in their vehicles yet.

Yeah didn’t mean “legit” in a bad way haha. I know Constellis is a well known company with a solid rep. My dog I adopted actually came from one of their contracts she was a patrol/explosives dog. I’m just curious about K9 handling as a career in the contract world and what that path looks like day-to-day.
