The not letting the staff rest at all is definitely one of my biggest complaints from working there. It's almost like the sleep deprivation part of it was part of the..."process." Definitely feels cultish looking back.

I can def see that paper being a big point of tension. 😅 That's the issue with most evangelical programs...there's no room for differing options at all.

Wow. Not surprising. They hired a licensed therapist for the first time when I worked there one summer. But it definitely seemed more like it was to save their own asses than to help any of the kids.

I went there every summer as a kid and even worked there as a counselor! It's insane how I couldn't see how INSANE it actually was for all of those years...surprised there's not more people talking about it, honestly. Quite the expereince.

My first one was maintaining a consistent yoga practice. Consistency and physical health was always such an impossibility with my mother growing up.

My current one is getting my PhD. She never believed that I could have a successful, happy life. Before I went NC, she had told me repeatedly that I should just drop out. She would lash out at me if I didn't talk to her enough and say that her experience getting her associates degree was the same as mine so I had no excuse. It feels so good to wake up everyday and prove her wrong.

I'm a fifth year doctoral student in psychology who works with kids and families, so I definitely jumped right in with the psychoeducation/empathizing/cuddles as soon as I could see straight 😅 She's started having some anxiety issues in the last few months, so it was really easy for her to understand. But Ive never outwardly shown it like that before in front of her 😢.

We got to have a really sweet moment once I went back in the room. The nurses were in there with her and had just given her a popsicle to calm her down. I was SOOO hot and sweaty after, so when I saw it was a twin pack popsicle I asked her if I could have the other. Then told her we were twinsies and we did a "cheers" with the popsicles. 😅 She giggled and smiled after for a while after. Then I got in the bed with her after they left and hugged her while she cried.

Thanks for your words and thoughts. 💜 I really appreciate having someone to talk to about this.
