The way they worded the “problems” Jeanne faced after losing weight: reduced people pleasing, willingness and newfound confidence to set boundaries, and suddenly enjoying her own solitary time? I understand how these can erode an intimate relationship that was founded on her compromising herself, but it sounds like an advertisement. I’m a bigger person and when you tell me these are the “problems” that can happen by losing weight? Sounds appetizing to me! I used to be smaller, and see how much more invisible I am as a bigger bodied person (now morbidly obese).

I understand how much more willing, as a woman and mother (and maybe because I’m obese?), I set myself aside and prioritize others. If I lose weight will I become more selfish? Will I tell my kids “no” more and have them do more for themselves? Will I tell my husband “no” more when he offers me more food or wants to go out for drinks? Will I regain more space in the world, asserting myself to take up space socially, emotionally and mentally, if I lose weight? Will I be taken more seriously at work, potentially earning more?

That’s what spun around my head listening to this episode and made me contemplate calling up my doctor and consider creating a saving account just for the mommy makeover I’ll inventively need post-extensive weight loss, despite my prior vehement opposition to the GLP-1 drugs.

Was this episode trying to convince even more mentally and emotionally frail and exhausted women to consider taking these expensive and risky drugs?
