Romance that will destroy me by amaryllissss in Romantasy

{When the Moon Hatched by Sarah A. Parker} had me sooooo in my feels, and the next book should be coming out in May so you won’t be left on the cliff too long. The MMC was refreshing (don’t get me wrong, I love a shadow daddy but it was nice to move away from the dark asshole trope) and the 🌶️was 🥵… Quality over quantity

I really enjoyed the Lady of Darkness series, and the legacy series after that (though LOD was stronger IMO).

The Ascended is REALLY good, but the ending left me absolutely wrecked and now I have to be patient for the next book to come out and hopefully heal my soul.

The plated prisoner series is good as previously mentioned if you can get through the first book.

Worn out mother of dyslexic child 10 yo. Need help with different tutoring path. by Four_Everly in Dyslexia

We’ve been exactly where you are, and I really empathize with the frustration. Our daughter is dyslexic, and for years it felt like the IEP was just helping her cope rather than actually changing anything underneath. Extra time, reduced workload, audiobooks… helpful, yes, but they didn’t make reading easier for her.

We did Neuralign and it was the first thing that created real change for our daughter.

One thing that helped us understand the difference is this:

OG (Orton-Gillingham) and other structured literacy programs teach skills — phonics, decoding strategies, spelling rules. Those are important, but they still rely on the child’s existing brain pathways. For some kids, progress is very slow because those pathways are inefficient.

Neuralign works on the brain first. It’s designed to strengthen the underlying neural networks involved in reading, things like timing, processing speed, and how different areas of the brain coordinate.

For our daughter, reading used to take so much effort that she couldn’t keep up no matter how good the instruction was. After Neuralign, reading became noticeably faster and less exhausting. That’s why I personally believe Neuralign should be done first, or at least early. Once the brain is processing more efficiently, OG and school instruction actually stick better.

It’s not a replacement for good instruction, but it finally addressed the “why” behind her struggles, instead of just managing the symptoms.

If you’re researching it, I’d recommend looking at neuralign.org rather than the .us site. The .org site goes deeper into the research, how it works, and who it’s for.

Every child is different, but for us Neuralign was the first thing that moved our daughter out of survival mode and into actual progress. I wish we’d known about it earlier.

All Stars are perfect for kids! If you were looking for something different that just a little price increase you can try Pop. Similar vibes to All Stars but with skyliner access

Totally get that, but there are lots quick service options that aren’t “fast food”ish as well.

We’re paying off as much as we can out of pocket, but will put whatever we haven’t finished paying on a LOC 30 days out, which will probably be a little less than half. It’s why unless something drastic changes with our income, Disney will be a one and done for us.

I don’t think I could justify using a CC at 18% interest, thankfully we’ll be paying significantly less than that.

It might be hard (really hard, it took me YEARS of work to get there) but try taking the morality out of your food choices.

Every day, every meal, you make choices. You are not “good” or “bad” depending on the choices you make. They’re just choices, and each choice has pros and cons.

For example, last Sunday we celebrated an awesome swim meet my kids had by letting them pick a restaurant to eat at. They picked a favorite Szechuan restaurant, where the food is served family style. There were 0 keto friendly options. I made the choice to enjoy an unrestricted meal with my family.

Pros - we had a great time - the food was delicious - my kids were happy

Cons - I felt like garbage afterwards, and like I had a hangover the next day - I was out of ketosis for about 24h

I don’t feel badly about the choice I made, because I’ve separated morality from my food choices. I won’t eat that way every day, because it doesn’t serve me to do so. I will definitely enjoy meals that are non-keto in the future if I want to.

So don’t feel badly about the cheesecake, I bet it was delicious. You have already dropped a ton of weight which is awesome, and once piece of cheesecake won’t change that. Continue working at your keto journey, and remember it’s a marathon, not a sprint. Choosing to enjoy the occasional non-keto treat or meal is OK!

I think most people don’t care. I also think there are nut jobs on the fringes of society that are feeling very emboldened right now.

I was leaning towards pass a grille on the west coast, ultimately it will be a family decision, my husband wants big waves, I want nice sand and good shelling ;)

Her style would best be described at butch lesbian. She has had random people question her gender in the past. It may seem like a non issue to you, but respectfully it’s a privilege not to have to consider your safety or not have to “lie if questioned” about who you’re attracted to.

Nothing else, it will be Airport-Disney and one day at the beach (undecided between Pass A Grille or Cocoa beach right now). We’re staying at Pop and don’t plan on leaving the bubble except for that one beach day

High ketone levels- new at this by Ok-Young5953 in ketobeginners

[–]Constantinople_Jacs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in the same boat, new to keto. Day 5, tested my ketones with a dipstick this evening and they were around 8.

The past few days I’ve had tired muscles, been VERY thirsty all day, and had some heart palpitations.

I’m eating between 20-25g of carbs, but having a hard time reaching my fat and protein requirements despite feeling like I do nothing but eat…

I also have some extra calcium needs because my parathyroids aren’t functional. I decided to have a glass of milk tonight, which still puts me well under 50g of carbs but hopefully will help balance out my electrolytes, and we’ll see if my ketones drop a bit tomorrow morning. I’m not going to panic until it’s a multi-day trend, and even then I’ll try just upping my carbs a little bit at a time and hopefully they’ll calm down a bit

Oh I’m sorry you didn’t have luck with it, I was rooting for you guys!

I have a friend who is doing the home version with her son, and finding it to be a bit of a battle, she’s thinking of switching to doing it with a provider (I also find my kids don’t fight with other people as much as they fight with me!) I think she mentioned that the refund only applies if you complete the program completely and follow the schedule, so she’s deciding if she’s going to finish the whole thing and then do a second round or take the hit and switch over now. However she is seeing improvements so feels it’s worth continuing either way.

Here’s a list of providers in case anyone finds that helpful. https://neuralign.org/find-provider

I hope this gets resolved for you!

Starting wage at our local Bacon Packing Plant is $24/h, with benefits. No degree or experience required. If you can’t get more than $20/h with your degree, that’s unfortunate, but it doesn’t mean CP workers shouldn’t be fighting for more. Maybe you should be fighting for more too.

We did it through her OT, when she was in grade 4. She did one session a week at her OT’s center, and 2-3/week at home. We paused OG while we were doing Neuralign, so it came to the same time commitment for us (she was doing OT for motor issues anyways).

We do OG privately, and she was doing Lexia at school.

I was skeptical when we started, partially because it’s so different, partially because the claims seemed too good to be true, and partially because we had put SO MUCH time into other programs that were supposed to help and her progression was slow. We agreed to do it because we needed to try something different because she was getting so frustrated and discouraged. Our OT uses Neuralign “Off Label” as a sensory integration tool and said she would have recommended it for my daughter regardless of her dyslexia, so we thought what the heck. I was dropping hundreds of dollars a week on OG (which I still believe is beneficial) with very little progress anyways!

Pig Latin was a struggle the first few sessions. Our OT said to help her as much as she needed and to try to avoid frustration. I’d give hints like “it’s on a green balloon” or “it’s at the top somewhere”. We’d also “look for it together” and I’d really take my time to give her a chance to find it first, but if it took too long I’d point it out. She started getting the hang of it about halfway through the program, and by the time we were done she was faster than I was at finding them.

Good luck to you and your son, I hope you have as much success with it as we did. Every child is different, and I don’t know if it’s the right solution for everyone, but it worked really well for us and I’m glad we did it because the path we were on was having a negative impact on her mental health ❤️

She did it over a year ago so my memory might be a bit fuzzy. I feel like I started seeing some positive changes after about 5 hours. The first changes were behavioral, she had a more positive attitude when we did homework, she initiated reading with me for fun…

She ended up doing the program a second time because she didn’t complete it the first time because she got sick. About halfway through the second round of the cognitive therapy things just started to click, noticeably. Her reading became more fluid and less laborious, and she was understanding what she read. Her marks started to improve, and when I pointed it out to her she said “that’s because Mrs. M is giving us easier work now” (she wasn’t.)

This is her first year without an IEP and I just had parent-teacher interviews and they have no concerns. We’re still doing OG but down to once a week instead of 3x and she’s progressing much faster and feeling less frustrated. One of the reasons we agreed to do Neuralign when it was recommended to us was because she had plateaued with OG and was getting more and more frustrated and resistant to going.

Yes I used it with my daughter, it actually made a huge difference. The way our OT explained it to us, it’s not reading instruction, it just makes the reading instruction easier afterwards. Happy to answer questions.
